Refund for booking that is for August 2019.

Customer booked for August 2019. Cancelled, which I'm fine with since it's a year out. It shows about 50% left in total that I have the discretion to refund. When I do, will Airbnb release the money to them, or wait until my next booking and take the money from me, and then I have to wait until August of 2019 to get the remaining 50%?
