Is it fair to ask guests to take rubbish with them?
I wouldn't dream of it, and would not give a 5* rating to a place that did. Even with a bin liner there is a potential for liquid to seep out, and if you have a family + luggage in a car, space could be an issue.
Where in the world would they take it to? I can't imagine asking a guest to do that but then again I have weekly trash pickup and a large bin.
No.
Definitely not. I have seen many guests take out the trash without sugestion but it should be their choice. In the end that is why they pay cleaning fee. As a host I don't even charge cleaning fee and I never expect from guests to do the cleaning. They shouldn't trash the place but neither to worry about the normal mess after they stay there.
Thankyou Maree for your rubbish question, I also have question do you think Guest should wash & iron the bedlinen and remake the beds accordingly.
@Maree17 It depends, I have stayed in many a holiday cottage where it is a rule to remove the trash and drop it off at a nearby designated facility (especailly perishibles) – in my experience it is quite common in small villages and rural areas to ask guest to do this. I can understand, especially if you don't live there that garbage can create a huge problem, both by attracting unwelcome visitors and extra cost for disposal. If it were me I would either buy some secure trash cans for outside and ask them to leave their trash there, or if there is a designated facility nearby ask them to drop it off there.
Would YOU be cool with taking trash with you when leaving an accommodation? Do you think they will just swing by the local landfill on their vacation to dispose of it?
