Hi
I just realised the secuiryt deposit is 0 for a booking and this is wrong. What is the best way to apply this after the booking has been made, if the guest agrees?
Hi @Martin205,
You cannot add the security deposit after the fact even if the guest agrees.
Here is more information that covers this: https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/458/can-a-security-deposit-be-collected-outside-of-the-airbnb-we...
There are only three reasons why a host can ask for additional money:
You may owe more money if:
- You change your reservation — for example, you need to add another guest
- Your host makes a claim on your security deposit
- Your host require taxes to be paid at check-in—this needs to be clearly stated on the listing prior to booking

My situation is similar, I pre approved a group of people of 7 and then i figured out they are spring brakers and not reviews at all , so there is a high probability that they wont care about my place and they will brake stuff just becasue they are partying, also the day that they check out I have a family coming the same day, so i am taking the risk not to have the house ready, how can I request money from the guest as security deposit once I pre approve them? . i think it is fair.
Maybe request money from the guest and specify that the money will be held by airbnb just in case something wrong happens, I have a very good feeling about this.
I am also wondering about this for a pet deposit. I had an instant book and the woman is bringing a cat. I want to be sure there is something in place in case of damages. This is an old thread but maybe someone will know? Thanks!
