Using Alexa to drop in on guests?

Am I breaking laws by listening to my guests?

@Jordan464  Why would you listen to your guests? That's pretty creepy, if not illegal (and I imagine it does fall under privacy laws) and if I were a guest and found out the host was doing that, I'd report them. If you are trying to determine if there are more people there than they booked for, you can monitor that by having outside cameras.

I don’t need to listen and for the record haven’t. I’m asking more out of curiosity.

@Jordan464    I think it may be a felony offense in some states, equivalent to illegal wiretapping and other forms of illegal surveillance. On Airbnb hidden and undisclosed cameras are a definite no-no, this could well fall under the same policy even if not addressed in the particular.

What are Airbnb’s rules about security cameras and other recording devices in listings?

Our Standards & Expectations require that all members of the Airbnb community respect each other’s privacy. More specifically, we require hosts to disclose all security cameras and other recording devices in their listings, and we prohibit any security cameras and other recording devices that are in or that observe the interior of certain private spaces (such as bedrooms and bathrooms), regardless of whether they’ve been disclosed."

What's considered a security camera or a recording device

Any mechanism that can be used to capture or transmit audio, video, or still images is considered a surveillance device. This includes, but is not limited to, things like Wi-Fi cameras (for example, Nest Cam or Dropcam), nanny cameras, web cameras in computer monitors, baby monitors, mounted or installed surveillance systems, decibel and device monitors, and smart phones with video and/or audio recording capabilities.

@Jordan464

Would you like for your guests to "drop in" on your Alexa?

What exactly would you like to hear when you "drop in"? Sex? Pooping? Toddler tantrums? Secrets? Fights?

This is a creepy question to post. Don't host if this is your approach to life, man.

Listening to guests on a secret surveillance device isn't "dropping in", it's called spying.
