cancellation by host

I had a trip booked for over2 months, due to arrive in 2 weeks and the host just canceled for no apparent reason. I am now left high and dry with nowhere to stay for a seminar and everything in the area completely booked out. You can imagine my frustration! I want some compensation and the host said they had paid a penalty and to contact Airbnb about it. They make it very hard to do so, this is unacceptable from Airbnb. Paying up front with no actual guarantee is terrible service, where do I go to get compensation from Airbnb? Airbnb you cannot just wash your hands of issues like this...

If a hosts cancels a reservation, then there is most likely a severe reason for it. The host also faces penalties from Airbnb, so it is not a step which is taken easily. However, if there are  "extenuating circumstances" the host can contact Airbnb and they will try to find a solution.

If you contact Airbnb and explain your situation, maybe they can work something out.

But you must realize when using the platform you agree with Airbnb terms of service, and yes, Airbnb can wash there hands of issues like this.
