AirBnB does not 'take' security deposits - they are just an agreement by the guest to pay up to the amount you specify on your listing, in the event of damage (which you have proven has been caused by the guest, or they admit it and wish to pay). The security deposit is not there for wear and tear, which come with hosting. Neither should you think it is for minor breakages, such as a glass. Set aside a small amount from every booking to cover wear and tear and minor accidents. Also ensure your own insurance is up to date and includes cover for you renting through AirBnB. It will probably be an easier route to claim in the event of any major damage.
