Amenities not offered

Hello all!  I just had a guest that stayed (checked in at midnight even though we have a 10pm cut off), and then helped himself to toothpaste, an electric toothbrush, and lotion.  We only provide soap and shampoo.  We also only charge $25 a night.  I am super annoyed about it, but don’t know if I should pursue anything....  suggestions?  I am going to buy a lock for the closet that he was not supposed to go into...

@Janet558 you should definitely lock anything that you don't want guests to have access to. I personally would just let it go in terms of asking for any kind of recompensation but it would be reflected in my review. Also another thing to note, you have to be very clear about what guests are and aren't allowed to use.

@Janet558  Hi, I advise not to leave things anywhere you don't want the guest to use. If he had access to these things he may have thought he could use them. You know what guests are like, they don't always read every word in the listings.

@Janet558 I would consider going after the electric toothbrush, if it was more expensive. I would think that the toothpaste and lotion is a bit more forgivable, but the toothbrush just seems to be taking the piss. It all depends on if you want to risk a poor review. Maybe try and get them to review before sending a resolution request. I think for me it would depend on the cost of the items.

I would reflect the guest's light-fingered ways in your review. Don't go into details because if you accuse them of theft it may get the review pulled, but do make it clear you wouldn't want to host them again.

Thanks gals.  We do have it spelled out in our listing, but I think I’m going to go with the suggestion to leave a note, as well as lock that cabinet up.  I don’t think I will ask him to reimburse us, although cost wise, it will be a wash for us in terms of any profit, but I am going to make sure he knows it’s wasnt cool and leave it in his review....  going to chalk this one up to a learning experience.

What ?!! He STOLE an electric toothbrush?

Tell him he's a thief and you want reimbursing. Simple. Message him first explaining that you have found the toothbrush missing and other amenities and you want consent to send a payment request of $xx. If he agrees, or wants to make amends then fine. If he declines send the request anyway!
