Background Check

The park where I have the home that I rent, is requiring a background check from anyone who rents. Any suggestions on how to do this? I'm sure no one wants to give me their social security number.

@Julie1406,

"Doing Airbnb" is not about renting, but about hosting. The people are guests, not tennants. I see on your listing it is a park for senior people.(55+). If the management insists on these "background check", you probably can't do hosting via Airbnb. Maybe talk to the management.

Best regards,

Emiel

With all due respect, I didn't ask anyone to give their opinion on my place that I host. They call hosting renting.

I asked about background checks.

Best regards.

You can join an online background check site and using the guest's name and city of residence you can do a basic background check for a small fee.  If they don't show up on the search using that information then you would have to tell them that they need to give you their legal name and actual city of residence (since their profile on Airbnb may be incorrect) or possibly more detailed information.

There may be laws about how you can use information from a background check in regard to housing but I don't know about that.  You would have to check on that.

Makes sense. Thanks so much!

@Julie1406  I don't think Emiel was giving any opinion about your place. I don't even know how you inferred that from his post. What he was trying to say is that in most places, there are clear legal differentiations between what is considered a renter or tenant and what is considered a short term guest. Apparently your park has its own definition and doesn't make that distinction.
