Can I reduce taxes by using hosting credits for my own stays?

The idea is this. I rent out my 1 room for a few weekends here and there. Rather than get paid and have to pay taxes on that, I could get paid partially/fully in hosting credits. I could then spend those hosting credits on my own stays at other airbnb hosts.

Is this possible now? Could it be made to be?

No and no - there is no benefit to BNB to do this - they would lose money.

Perhaps you could consider home exchange ?

Yes, we do that for 1-2 weeks at a time, but not so much for weekends. Airbnb would be easier.

Thanks

Agree, there is a lot of preparation to exchange just for a week-end.  I've done it once as it is hard to say no to Barcelona, but I do not think I will do it again.

Not sure your tax authority would look favourably on you avoiding paying taxes. Nice thought though!

The benefit goes beyond any tax saving. We own an AirBNB property in Australia. We are about to visit the USA and will be staying at AirBNBs. We would like to take credits from hosting to apply to our overseas stays. It would save us exchanging between currencies if AirBNB can simply apply its own bank exchange rates. And it would encourage us to use AirBNB places rather than consider using hotels sometimes. So there would be an advantage to AirBNB (more bookings) in offering this as part of its platform. And it would make holidays and payment methods more flexible for hosts.
