Cancelling a reservation

Cancelling a reservation

I need to cancel a reservation cause I have relatives coming into town for a wedding unexpectedly and need to be able to host them.
I want to be able to cancel without being penalized severly. Any suggestions? This would be my second cancellation in 3 years.

As a host, it is important to keep your reservations.  Unfortunately, you will be penalized if you cancel this reservation.  If it were me, I would keep the reservation and help your family find accommodations elsewhere.

There will be a penalty for sure. Unexpected weddings are certainly unusual, but I don't think that AirBNB will consider this to be an extenuating circumstance.

Can't everyone stay some place else or bunk in with one of the roommates?

Why would that mean you need to cancel a booking?

I think your choices are

1. honour your booking - it's not your guests fault that family members are coming into town unexpectedly. You can either get your family members to bunk up if they want to stay with you or help them find another BnB.

2. Find another BnB for your guests and pay the difference (if they are willing to move).

3. YOu choose to cancel the booking - then you need to take the penalty. - You can't have it both ways 🙂

How about your relatives book a nearby airbnb place? I think penalties are severe if you canceled one within the year. you should more about the cancellation penalties for host and reach out to them in their help center
