Cardinal sin

I’m about to commit the cardinal sin. I’m going to have to cancel 2 bookings on a property that is now unlisted. Not because I want to, nor can help. I’m not prepared to fight Airbnb about a very personal medical matter for a member of my family which means they are going to have to stay in the property for several months. So this is going to affect 3 years of hard work and goodbye super host on my main property. I’ve even looked at other similar properties nearby but they’re all dearer as this was a new property I was listing. Oh well, was good while it lasted.

Hello @Susan869 ,

You could at least give it a TRY to involve Airbnb for penalty free cancellations due to extenuating  circumstances ?

I suppose I should, just a bit sad and no emotional energy left to jump through hoops. I’ll sleep on it and probably will try. Thank you

I lost my superhost status for a year when my husband had a major medical experience that resulted in the cancellation of ONE booking.  The only way to avoid this was to provide a letter from my husband's doctor with his diagnosis and prognosis, which I refused to do.  It's nobody's business what his medical condition is!  And I talked to the guest in person and they were very understanding and had no problem with the cancellation - Airbnb was able to find them another satisfactory listing.  It just seems so unfair to punish me in this way (and you, too).  Sometimes the rules just suck.   Try to talk to Airbnb, if you have the energy for it.  On the positive side, I still had plenty of bookings once we opened up again, and a year later I became a superhost again.

I have actually thought about speaking to the 2 guests and seeing if they would listen and cancel, either way the bookings can’t take place, so I might try that and see if they have a heart? As you said I’m not prepared to give Airbnb details of daughters medical problem, and the need she has to be near me to help with the toddlers. The medical info is not mine to give and I don’t know how I could prove she is going to have to stay there? Never mind, we’ll see.

@Susan869, that's a great idea. Obv offer full refund. Seems a great way to try first.
