My Airbnb guests are the best. My mother's recent admission to end-of-life hospice care followed by her passing was made especially difficult as I am a live-in host who was fully booked for the month in my home 3,000 miles away from Mom. From the guests who adjusted their arrival times to the guest who offered me a ride to the airport and to the guest who volunteered to change the bed linens herself while I was away, I received so much kindness and support. Thank you one and all!
I received much less support from Airbnb staff whose only response to my request for guidance was to remind me that if I cancelled even just one booking, I would lose my Superhost status for an entire year. No one on staff informed me of an exemption for death in the family, if indeed Airbnb still offers that.
