Double Request - One request is Paying for the guest & the Other request is the person staying

Hello Community,

I'm new to Airbnb and this double request made me questions if it was a scam?  I declined the following.

The scenario:

I received a booking request from guest arriving from the Philippines, over a four-day period in Las Vegas, the guest would be attending a convention. (We will call Tom) Then within a few hours later, I received another request referencing (Tom's request) and that he works with Tom and will be paying for his stay. (The second and paying person was also from the Philippines)

My questions are:

1) Was this a scam or is this common on Airbnb.

2) Could I be double booking my room, when it is listing as (1 bd/1 guest) and could I be held to host two people if they showed up.

Thanks

Chuck

@Charles38 Only the person booking and paying is the real guest. Airbnb policy does not allow third party bookings. You were right to decline.

We've had this happen before. Two guests in the same party put in a Request to Book for the same place on the same dates, not knowing what the other one is doing. I would look carefully at both guest profiles, to see if you feel comfortable with the guests.  It makes sense to accept the request of the guest who is planning to pay and decline the other.

Now, if you mean there is only one guest (Tom), and their buddy wants to make the booking a pay for it, then that is not allowed. That would be a third party booking. Let the guests know you can only accept a booking from the person who is the actual guest.

@Charles38

You can tell the original Tom that he can send an invitation through Airbnb to the paying Tom to open up his own account, then the paying Tom will get a trip voucher he can use and the original Tom gets a certain amount as voucher too for his next trip within a year.

This invitation can be done through the dashboard - it says Refer Guests or something like that.
