Guest No-Show

Hi, I've just had my first experience of a guest not showing for their reservation. I sent three messages to their inbox, none of which were answered. I think they are new to Air BnB.

I have received payment for their booking but want to return it as I don't feel comfortable accepting it. I truly believe this person is uneducated on how Air BnB works and being in a foreign country could have been a little overwhelmed with everything.

I don't know what to do. They are not responding to my messages.

Cheers, Paula

@Paula727, while I think it is admirable that you want to return their fee, you are under no obligation to do so. It is you that will lose out as you can't get a booking at such short notice. They may have just been held up or changed their minds. They might also be lost! However, it is a worry that they haven't shown up - I guess if you were really concerned, you could always contact the police and let them know.

Thanks @Kath9 - every time I get a booking I explain to them I work in a restaurant. Sometimes they get lucky and I'm home - most are not that lucky but they have all been fine up till now. This person Is from China and I'm picking their English is not great. I sent a detailed explanation of how to get here, what to do etc. I feel terrible. I think they turned up, tried to contact me, but I was working and couldn't answer my phone, so they left. I just feel bad they have paid for something they haven't used. That's all.

@Paula727 you are so kind...............not many folks like you I think! So curious why you think they came? Maybe find someone to help you out with receiving guests. All the stress of working and not being able to answer when guests contact you is no fun - maybe the person can cover those call too?? just a thought., keep us posted.....many people are pretty resilient and will manage even without the language - I have a Chinese friend and her English skills are poor BUT, she gets what she needs and isn't shy about asking somehow. Gotta love that.  best to you, Clara
