@Stephen18  Unless you had $20K or more in reservation payouts AND had 200 or more transactions, you will not recieve a 1099K which, if you did, is what you would have received.  You still need to report your income from Airbnb.  Your reservation history will have a link to your 2015 payouts.  Don't forget to deduct the Airbnb fee and the TOT we pay to the county.

And, welcome, Pismo Beach!  I'm in Templeton...small world!

I'm in the same boat. Airbnb of course doesn't want the financial burden of sending out 1099s to people unless you're a high-earner for them. They are making multi millions of dollar off of us small-timers, but to maximize their profits they don't want to spend the money to send us a 1099. Disgusting, but we put up with it.

@James43 Not to defend Airbnb, but why do you need a 1099?  You can look up your earnings easily under your transaction history.

Not getting a 1099 is great, who would want to report income (or rather have their income reported) if they don't have to. And it's a law: over 20k or 200 transactions. That is why they follow it.

I'm curious what date they will have them issued by, it's nice to know when that date is to plan tax preparation accordingly.

Anyone from Airbnb..? I can't find it anywhere.  I am aware I can see my total earnings;  it's just that  I have multiple listings and wondering if it all is reported to the same 1099k under the same email.

Does anyone know for sure whether the income is reported if a 1099 is not issued?

I believe the 1099 (if you receive one) is the only way of reporting it. Also, I have seen that they are now using the language that BOTH over 20k and over 200 transactions is merit for 1099

@Em-and-Tim0 Yes, 1099K's will be issued only to hosts who have earned at least $20K AND have had at least 200 payouts or more.  For those of us who do not meet that criteria, we will not receive a 1099 or a 1099K.  That said, hosts still need to report their earnings from renting their space.  The IRS will not forgive under reporting the income.  🙂

@Allen42 @Stephen18 @Clare0 @Em-and-Tim0 @James43- Yes, I read on a different Airbnb forum that a host did not report the income as a 1099 was not issued to her but the IRS did somehow know and she was made to pay the piper. So do report the income. Your first year, use a CPA. If you own your home the decisions you make now about reporting will have consequences down the line, including as related to depreciations taken and Capital Gains.
