Hello fellow hosts,
I have recently had two separate guests who changed their reservation from 2 nights to 1 with less than 5 days notice (I have a moderate cancellation policy which requires greater than a 5 day notice for a full refund). When I got the request, I communicated this to the guests and "accepted" their reservation change request so that my calendar can be updated, etc. However, Airbnb now shows that fee as if there they were always staying for only one night and there is no documentation/mention of the fact that I should still be getting 50% of the night they are not staying. Is there something I need to do differently to be sure my cancellation policy is being honored or did I waive it by "accepting" the change? I cannot find the answer to my question anywhere in the Airbnb help center.
Thank you for your thoughts!
Jennie
The only way to get a response from abnb is to tweet or comment on their Facebook page.
I would recommend calling the airbnb help center, they have always been extremely helpful and courteous to me, never had a bad experience , even though when I call sometimes I am totally lost about what to do , they walk me through it with patience, hope this helps, Mary
If you have accepted the change, that's it ! The booking is for one night only and you will get paid for one single night. The only way to retain your funds would be to decline the change. You only get your 50% if the guest cancels.
So to get the 50% I have to decline the change? How does Airbnb actually get notice that the client does not stay that night?
To get your 50%, the guests will have to cancel the reservation and your dates will be freed up. If you decline, they will have to pay for both nights even if they stay only one, but you risk a review to match.
You will get your 50% anyway though - you get paid for one night - 50% of two nights 😉 There is no way to get 50% of the night not spent.
