Security Deposit

How and where do you request for the seccurity deposit.  My first confirmed booking, happening in a week`s time.  Can any of you good people help.

Hi,

We usually request cash upon check in, always works, somethimes people prefer bank transfer. 

There's an option to charge that within your listing but that didn't work out well with us so we switched cash.

Although I have seen many posts where people say they request payment for a security deposit by cash or alternative from the guest at check-in, please note that this is a violation of Airbnb's terms. (https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/458/can-a-security-deposit-be-handled-off-site?topic=224) If caught, you could be removed as a host.

The way Airbnb intends for it to work:

IF you would like a security deposit option, you can indicate it in your listing financial info. Then, IF a guest causes damage that you need compensation for, you would submit that claim to Airbnb and they will handle it from there - investigating, billing the guest's credit card and compensating you. If there is no claim needed, no security deposit is charged.

Now, that being said, according to their terms, they will use their "commercially reasonable efforts" to assist you but they don't guarantee that they will be accept, approve, or pay your claim.

I wish I took cash as security deposit. My guest never returned the keys + electronic fob and now I have to replace the lock and the keys as security precaution. I filed a claim via AirBnb, but they will only get involved after 72 hours 😞

I have a guest who says they have not receieved thier security deposit yet.  It's been over a month.  I can't seem to beable to find a phone number for AIRBNB.  What should I do?

Crying about your problem in here does nothing.  We can't fix your problem.  Call AirBnB, or take your problem to their FaceBook page and make it public!

Google will find the number of AirBnB for you... Use it.

@Melinda5 the reason they dind't get refunded is AirBNB does not actually collect the security unless there is claim. They onlhy reserve the right to charge the credit card or payment method up to the security despoit amoutn if theey agree to the charge. 

Tell them you have nothing to do with the money side of it and ask the guest to call AirBNB and if they ask how tell tehm what mike would ' Google it"   

I personally think someone is tryin got scam you.
