Service fee increases when changing reservation to different apartment even though guest fee same

Does anyone know why the service fee would increase when I make a change to the apartment a guest has already booked?  I wanted to change the apartment the guest had booked in order to let the person currently staying in the apartment extend their stay.   I  went through the change reservation process and even though I set the total charge to the guest the same (the apartment is usually more expensive) airbnb decided to increase the service fee by 200yen (2 USD).   Seems wrong to me.

Thanks for your help.

hi--not sure why this happens either...but here's good news, maybe:

i had the same experience this week when i added free nights to my guests who had evacuated from hurricane matthew. I couldn't understand why my service fee effectively jumped from 3% to 4.3% even though the dollar amount for the reservation was exactly the same. The only thing I changed was the length of stay. I was about to send a question to Airbnb about this, and then realized that it actually all sorted out....by the time the guest had accepted the reservation stay, the service fee had corrected back to the 3%. It showed up wrong at the outset, but then somehow "caught up to itself". I wonder if this will happen for you.

Hi,

Airbnb increased the service fee after I requested a booking and wants me to pay the higher price. As I took screenshots, I have evidence of the increase in the service fee (nightly rate and cleaning fee remained the same) but Airbnb will feign ignorance. How can I solve this problem?

Thanks,

E
