Tax question

Does AirBnb report my earnings to the IRS if I only made 9k last year? I see on their website it says they only issue a 1099-k if you make over 20 grand.

I'm trying to fill out my taxes and I'm confused. I'm trying to report the income in my turbo tax but I don't have a number for the 1099-MISC and I don't have a 1099-K. Do I put this under extra income???

Hi @Kevin17

NO, they don’t issue the 1099 or report earnings for hosts with less than 200 transactions or below $20k…

So, it’s your responsibility to declare your earnings to the IRS…

@Kevin17 Here's a helpful link from Ernst and Young about reporting Airbnb income:

I had a similar question...i was able to find the total earnings for the year but i got stuck on turbo tax...i'm not sure where to put this income...it seems like there is a consensus out there to put them on Schedule c even though the tax rate fro self emplolyed is 15.3% but the chances to get an irs letters are lowere than if you were to file Schedule E...has anyone out there filed schedule C? what did you put on the 1099 misc?
