Thoughts on Bed Linen change during stay.....

Hi All,

The majority of our guests to date have been short stay, 2-6 nights maximum. However, tomorrow we are expecting our first guest to stay 7nights.

We supply enough towels (generally 2-3 per person) and offer more if needed. But I'm not sure what to do in this case regarding bed linen.

Given that the Studio is private and self contained, I would need to gain access to change the sheets. Usually our guests are left alone, unless they need or request something.

I'm interested to hear what others do for stays of a week of longer......

Do you offer to do a change of bed sheets mid stay?
Do you leave some spare sheets for them to do it themselves, if they want?
Or would you not bother, unless it is longer than a week?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts,
Michelle 🙂

I ask the guests their preference and then supply or do accordingly.  That usually works out well.

@Michelle-And-Michael0  I host a private room in my home. I offer guests a change of bedding once a week, but I do adjust that for length of stay. If they stay a week, that's all they get unless they would request it for some reason (no guest ever has). If someone is staying 10 days, I'll offer at the halfway mark- 5 days. I've had many guests stay 10 days who said it was fine, they didn't need fresh sheets after a week- that they go 2 weeks on sheets at home. A couple may want clean sheets (due to playtime) more often than a single guest. I just ask the guests if they would like me to do the sheet changes, or whether they'd prefer to do it themselves. All have opted to do it themselves.

Of course, I do make exceptions, play it by ear. I had a 1 week guest who got really sick her 5th day here. She didn't puke on the bed or anything, but was sleeping all day, sweating, etc. It was a 24 hour bug, so she was pretty much recovered the next day, but I gave her clean sheets, as it's not nice to sleep on bedding you've been lying around sick on all day.

Thanks for sharing what you do @Sarah977.

Some good tips and advice 🙂

I would arrange for a midstay clean, that way you can do a quick vacuum and bathroom clean and towel /linen change etc. Clean whatever you can get to without moving guest belongings. If guests don't want you to come and service the place, make sure they have access to vacuum cleaner etc so they can do it themselves if need be. They might trail crumbs around the place etc, hard to keep clean for that long! You can offer to come when they are there or when they are out, whatever works for you both mutually. I have never had an issue with this. I offer midstay cleans for 5 days and up. 4 days can manage, or ring me if need be. I also need to chop wood and replace kindling etc, so I am always needed.

Thanks for sharing, @Sandra126 It sounds like you look after your guests very well.

It's only a small space, so we don't really have room for a vacuum cleaner.... but we do leave a broom and dustpan/brush set. We understand how annoying crumbs can be!

@Michelle-And-Michael0  Same here- I leave a broom and dustpan behind the guest bathroom door- in my case, it's not crumbs, as they have only have a bedroom/bathroom and share my kitchen, and I warn them about eating in their room- the ants will move in within 15 minutes here in the tropics. So what needs sweeping here is sand, as it's virtually impossible to come home from the beach without bringing in sand, which isn't so nice to walk around on in bare feet.

@Michelle-And-Michael0  I agree with what @Sarah977  said about the sheets - I  get a lot of 6 ot 7 night bookings and as yet have never changed  the sheets unless there has been some sort of mishap.  I offer them a clean set of towels each after 4 nights.  As for going into the room, I ask them midway if they would like me to pop in and top up the little bowl of chocolates I leave for them to nibble on and whether the posy of flowers on the window sill is in need of replacing - nothing  worse than dead flowers!  Nobody has ever objected, especially to the replacements chocs.

@Rachel0 Haha.... I wouldn't say no to replacement chocolates either! Thanks for your input 🙂

When I have guests staying for 7 nights or longer, @Michelle-And-Michael0 ,I follow this procedure which I posted in another inquiry recently.  Check this out:

https://community.withairbnb.com/t5/Help/Minimum-night-stay/m-p/1052455#M221060

Additionally, there are also spare sheets kept in a dresser of the guest's room in case of mishap or emergency.

@Gregory87 Thank you for the link which has some good advice!

It's great to see another perspective on what others do 🙂

@Michelle-And-Michael0   We do the same as @Sarah, we offer it after 7 days, and for a 9/10 day stay we offer it half way through, new sheets and new towels, we don't give an option for people to do their own sheets though, we go in and do it along with a light cleaning.  But, not everyone wants that, some people say they're fine.

@Michelle-And-Michael0  Hi M & M. We change towels after four nights max regardless of what the guest requires, along with the towels we also change the shower mat and tea towels. When it comes to linen things get a little more complex, the policy we employ is to ask the guest if they would like their bed linen changed on a weekly basis, 99% of guests are happy with that approach!!!!
