Hello there, I am new to Airbnb., just in over a month. We have had way too many people leaving stains on sheets and blankets. therefore way too much washing and water used. What do you do when people stain the sheets?
Some of the stains simply will not wash out.
thanks.
I have had problem with guest sleeping with some sort of acne medicine on their face and it bleaches out my pillow cases and they also sleep on my extra pillows that match the duvet and it takes out the color. You don't see it until you wash the sheets and then it appears just like bleach on color! Not much to do but buy more pillow cases and duvet covers.
@Brenda220, ugh I remember those days. It's easier when you use all white bedding.
Ahh, acne medication. We wondered what was bleaching the pillowcases.
Hi @Kerry183. Stains on linen is the bugbear of many a host.
Sometimes it’s a good idea to start covering yourself through your nightly cost, for replacement sets. Also listen to other hosts offers of cleaning suggestions. Sometimes stains just need an extra length of time to dissolve....
A few years ago, I saw a good suggestion by a host who leaves make-up remover wipes in the bathroom to discourage the dreaded mascara stain. I agree that this is a cost of doing businesses. Most importantly, protect your mattresses. That's where the real damage can cost.
I just want to share my experience with make-up wipes. I have an apartment building and a tenant was flushing these wipe down the toilet for quit some time. It came to a head when 3 of the units that share the main serwer line backed up sewer water (they call it black water). All the wipes were jammed packed in the one tenants sewer line, and caused the damage. Over $40 thousand dollars in damage! It was a nightware!!! These wipes are NOT flushable!! It says it on the package "not flushable" but who reads that? Even if it says flushable, I don't believe or trust it. I have a sign posted above all apt toilets and my airbnb toilet "Only flush toilet paper (and human waste, of course) NO other personal hygene products are to be flushed"
Yes..we have had a problem with that..the major cause being sunblock...grrr..at the moment with Summer that is the biggest bain of hosting..any suggestions?
I use only white sheets and towels, you will see any stains right away. If blood then spray hydrogen peroxide first then bleach everything . Don’t buy expensive sheets, keep a couple sets on hand .
don’t over stuff your washers! cold water removes blood stains, and is better for fabrics and the environment. bar laundry soap and a hard scrub works great for makeup etc, use dish soap for grease, like massage oils. borax is an awesome deodorizer. never wash sheets with towels to avoid pilling, hair, static and wrinkles, and keeps the bedding lasting longer, also the weight in machines becomes uneven wrecking your units. buy good detergent, I use Nellies washing soda. dry one set of sheets at a time to avoid static and wrinkling, don’t crowd the dryer with towels, you will dry faster and have fluffy towels without chemicals like dryer sheets.
I am a cleaner and I only do rental units for airbnb owners.
I only use white towels and sheets. For the most part, I consider them to be consumables and have multiple sets on hand so I can do a swap out if I need to take time to treat stains or simply replace them if a stain won't come out. Three things that have helped me out a lot are:
1. Black face towels and washcloths for makeup. I tell my guests specifically they are provided. You can get many different types from Amazon:

2. Danjor Linens from Amazon. They are super soft, amazingly wrinkle resistant, and relatively low in price.

3. Makeup remover towelettes from Gilchrist & Soames. They sell cases of 200 and I leave a stack in the medicine cabinets. Gilchrist & Soames is a great bulk vendor that sells to the public.

My female guests use the hell out of the black towels and it has saved my pillow cases and white towels.
Hi,
See my earlier post today regarding make-up remover towelettes. It's super important!
I’m switching to white sheets in the future. I discovered that the Chlorox cleaner I use with bleach is really good at removing stains before I wash. I use hydrogen peroxide for blood but this for everything else.

But yes, I do NOT think leaving stains for the owner to find (vomit, etc..) is a cost of business. It’s rude.
In contrast, we recently had a group of guys who got drunk after a game. Know what? They washed their linens and the pillows before they left. Super fabulous and neat. Missed one sheet but the chlorine took out the stain in minutes.
Not sure why other people think they can just leave.
@Christine615 I told all my daughters when they were teenagers to keep in mind that if they weren't mature enough to get to the toilet when they'd had too much to drink and had to puke, that they weren't mature enough to drink.
Use Persil and a Toothbrush... Dawn and a toothbrush, and on whites I use soft scrub, and a toothbrush. Softscrub has bleach in it but its not as harsh as using straight bleach.
