I am thinking that Air B and B should take it on board that many guests arrive by plane..this is not acceptable in the long term given that the planet is on the verge of being destroyed. I was therefore thinking that any future guests booking my property and travelling solely by train with a valid train ticket from abroad will be able to get a 40% discount on my bookings.People arriving by train in the UK would get a 20% booking with a valid ticket.. Start the trend and let's all do our bit!!!
@Pete69, I know that's what the paper says (I can read), but that is simply a regurgitation, not a critical analysis.
So you have nothing to say about it then. Why am I not surprised.
I know it pains you to have your near religious views on this topic debunked, but you really ought to watch Joseph Bast's 1 hour and 17 minute video called "Why scientists disagree about global warming". Then explain to me why you still believe that "the debate is over and the science is settled".
@Pete69, I already said several things about it my previous post. And my views are based on science, not religion. In fact, it is often the religious who stridently denounce climate change as false.
Joseph Bast - Not a scientist. Former CEO of The Heartland Institute which is an American conservative and libertarian public policy think tank. In the 1990s, the Heartland Institute worked with the tobacco company Philip Morris to attempt to discredit the health risks of secondhand smoke and to lobby against smoking bans. Not a scientific body. Funded, in part, by Exxon-Mobil, Phillip-Morris, GlaxoSmithKline and The Walton Family(Walmart).
Thanks @Sarah977. @Pete69, I prefer to listen to climate scientists when it comes to climate change, not oil industry-funded conservative economists who have a conflict of interest in getting people to use fewer fossil fuels. You're from LA for goodness sake - surely you of all people would like to see less pollution, even if you don't believe in climate change.
And like clockwork you just keep reciting old lies from the left. The massive conflict of interest and bias comes from GOVERNMENT money -- bit "big oil". From 1989 until 2009 the U.S. government spent more than 32.5 billion on climate studies.
Tens of thousands of jobs depend upon global warming right now." -- Prof Patrick Michaels, Department of Environmental Sciences - University of Virginia, US
"Climate scientists need there to be a problem in order to get funding" -- Dr Roy Spencer
"there is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide will, in the forseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere" -- 31,478 scientists (Oregon Petition)
Roy Spencer - Meteorologist, not a climatologist.
Spencer is a signatory to "An Evangelical Declaration on Global Warming" which states that "We believe Earth and its ecosystems—created by God's intelligent design and infinite power and sustained by His faithful providence—are robust, resilient, self-regulating, and self-correcting, admirably suited for human flourishing, and displaying His glory. Earth's climate system is no exception"
@Pete69 What was that you were saying about "near religious views?"
"The long-term prediction of future climate states is not possible" - Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
@Pete69 hahahahaha! HAHAHAHAHA! GOVERNMENT conflict of interest and bias in favour of climate change??? You mean the same government that is backed by oil and gas and has every vested interest in NOT addressing climate change? Because that's what's happening with both your government and mine. Our prime minister just signed off on one of the WORLD'S BIGGEST coal mines owned by a corrupt Indian company with an appalling environmental and human rights, which will almost certainly be the tipping point for the dying Great Barrier Reef. He is also refusing to address the fact that our nearby Pacific neighbours are going underwater, despite their desperate pleas for help. Yours who constantly tweets ridiculously ignorant comments denying climate change and who has just opened up ANWR for drilling, which i remember they were fighting to protect 30 years. I could go on and on but i know I'm wasting my breath because you'll just come back with some 'proof' of why I'm wrong. So hey, sit back, relax, turn on your air con and let the rest of us get on with doing something about it because, Pete, things ARE changing, in spite of the government and people like you.
Your hypocrisy is on full display. YOU claimed "big oil bias". There's tens of thousands of GOVERNMENT jobs that depend on there being a problem. You're also a Texas Sharpshooter. We're coming out of the little ice age. You still have no explanation for the medieval warm period either. It debunks your religious-like belief in AGW.
I'll come back with 31,478 scientists who disagree with you....
"There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide will, in the forseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere" -- Oregon Petition
Oh and by the way @Pete69, the weather and the climate are two different things. I learnt that in grade 6.
Maybe it's a good idea for some parts of the world, but definitely not a global solution. Every time when a guest tells me, that he/she is arriving by train, i get really concerned. "Train" means, that my guest will arrive very late and very tired . To cross a border by train means at least 3-4 hours delay. Internal trains are also slow-1 hour is a regular delay. To travel 100km by train means 2-3 hours in the train, without A/C, slowly, noisy and not very safe. There is a statistic for the age of our trains-the average age is 40 years. Most of the wagons are from the 80's and locomotives are from the late 60's and 70's. The newest trains are about 20 y. old.
With or without the global warming, I can't push my guests to use trains. I never use them myself.
@Anthea29 I have noticed quite a change in how my guests choose to travel this Spring/Summer. Many of my young European guests actively chose to travel by train or bus instead of flying. This year (in Denmark) interrail tickets rose with 50% compared to last year (an interrail ticket is a ticket you can use to travel all over Europe. Or only parts of Europe. You decide which countries the ticket should cover and the period of time when you buy it). I also know that EU is currently working on making a system so it is possible to easily plan and book a train trip.
People also seem to feel ashamed of flying. It is definitely no longer "cool" to say that you are flying or going on vacation far away. "Staycation" or taking smaller trips you can reach by train or bus seems to be more popular. It is of course much easier in Europe since trains and busses are driving frequently and the distances are not crazy. I really like your idea with giving a discount to those who choose trains 🙂
Trawling around on the internet one can easily find "proof" that evolution doesn't happen, that "white" people are inherently superior, the German extermination of the Jews never happened in World War 2, that Sandy Hook was a hoax and that women are biologically unfit for holding positions of power- you know, ruled by their emotions, subject to fits of pique and unable to think logically. (sound familiar?)
The thing that raised my hackles was the patronizing idea that no articulate and passionate young person could use social media to raise awareness about a cause they care deeply about without an adult puppeteer in the background.
My beloved granddaughter took a knee whilst playing the Star spangled Banner at a baseball game (and she didn't miss a note!) she and her classmates had several deep discussions about this beforehand, one big concern was making sure that those in the band who didn't want to participate in this respectful protest didn't feel marginalized- to quote her "Even if anyone felt like they couldn't take a knee at the last moment, maybe they changed their mind or got scared, it had to feel okay." OMG the trolls came out in force about brainwashing, how those kids were traitors to the flag and didn't deserve to be in this country, they made threats against the teacher-they could not accept that this was a kid led idea. This wasn't flipping a bird mind you, this was kneeling in peaceful, lawful and respectful protest and her grandma is immensely proud of her, she is brave, thoughtful and brilliant and stubborn as a mule.
