So I have yet to write this review and need help.
So I had a guest check in and was suppose to be for 8 and showed up with 13 plus animal but theres a whole lot more.
So my listing is pretty to the point and states its my primary residence which I reside in with my daughter and I may stop by if need be. So I had to stop in and grab my daughters bookbag. When i did I texted my guest to make her aware I would be stopping in and she asked for a specific time which i thought was strange! I showed up and rang the bell and let myself in to find 7 guests sitting around my table drinking. I wouldnt of been on alert until as i was exiting my booked guest met me in the driveway and as i was pulling away I noticed a car with more people and a dog. i live on a residential dead end street. And in addition I have an outdoor camera. Ok long story short camera noted 13 people plus the dog. I was a wreck that evening. However uipon my return the house was the way I left it.
So I charged her with the added guests and the dog. Which she paid. However, after I requested payment my significant other found a marijuana ciggerette lingering in my front hallway counter. I was mortified. I have a pre teen daughter. I didnt inbox her but now I have to write a review and the question is what to say and how to alert other hosts what they may encounter booking with her!!
HELP!!!
@Tiffany28 that's a terrible situation. I would make the review short, along the lines of:
Guest broke two important house rules by allowing extra guests and a pet, and by smoking indoors. It is for these reasons that I cannot recommend this guest.
Then give the 'thumbs down" which means that the guest will not be able to use IB for listings where the requirement is set to "recommended by other hosts".
Thank you for your response! I appreciate your input but I have no evidence they smoked they just left behind a unlit ciggerette.
Always a little bit difficult when the guest breaks the house rules but, pays what needs to be paid and respects the property.
You don't want to crucify the guest, but you want to alert others that the guest does have some compliance issues.
How long ago did this guest leave Tiffany? Have you had a chance to simmer down and look at the entire experience objectively?
Rather than 'bad mouth' the guest you should get your point across but make them feel just a bit guilty that they behaved the way they did......Maybe something like this.... For the sake of flow lets call your guest Monica!
"Monica's communication was first class and I looked forward to hosting her group. Unfortunately Monica lost track of her numbers and considerably more people stayed than had booked, plus what I am assured was a lovely pet!
Of course Monica was free to use the listing as she wished, and she had no hesitation in paying for those additional guests once it was pointed out. Monica and her group left the listing very much as they found it with my only complaint being a couple of cigarette or similar substance butts left where my young daughter may have had access to them. Monica was responsive to my requests and once she becomes a bit more familiar with home hosting could become worthy of recommending to other hosts. It was nice to meet her and I wish her well for the future".
Tiffany, you have not given her anything to fire back at you. You have explained to everyone that the numbers didn't add up, there was a pet and cigarettes were involved (don't get into the Marijuana bit, serves no purpose).....we will all get it Tiffany and you have made yourself look a thoughtfull and diplomatic host.
If you are in doubt about how you should handle this go to my post...

I hope you can learn something from that.
Cheers.....Rob
Thank you for your quick response and I honestly couldnt of worded it better myself! I didnt mention to my guest what i found because I really didnt want to get into it. However, after leaving her the review should I place what I found in a private message to her or just leave it be? The guest I am referring to left on Sunday and I have slept a couple of nights on it. However, upon returning home and seeing my home was intact I did message her this and got no response however as said she paid the added fees:
Thank you for staying. However, our contract was for 8 adults! You were fully aware that I have a securuty camera on my front door! Last night in reviewing the camera I counted 13 adults and a dog! The fee below reflects the difference! 25 per adult and fee for the dog!
Rob, I have read your article in full and found it to be excellent and definelty a future reference! As you can see I am new to this and strive for excellence and just want to give my guests the best overall experience! I must say Saturday it was very difficult to see 13 people enter my home and try to keep my cool! However, this is built on trust and respect and overall things could of been worse.
Thank you again,
Tiffany
In your situation, I would have contacted BNB and ask them to cancel the booking as the guest far exceeded the numbers booked and brought an animal along - that is not a mistake but a blatant disregard for you as a host.
