Can´t verify my mobile phone number

Dear Community,

I am trying to verify my mobile phone number, but always get the following error "Sorry, we cannot send verification code to this number. Please make sure you input the correct mobile number."

It is a German Mobile and I have selected the correct Präfix +49. I have tried my number with a leading 0 and without it. Both doesn´t work.

Looking forward for some advice.

Thanks,

Michael

Airbnb is the ONLY platform that I have had this issue with so far. This is one of the many reasons that Airbnb will fall out of favor with the public and will be replaced by other platforms. They did a great job at becoming the leader in the short-term rental industry, but they clearly don't really know how to maintain that. Even Google has recognized that Airbnb isn't the best company to work with.

AirBnB is failing to verify a U.S. AT&T number that I've had for more than 15 years. I was ready to book a stay this afternoon, but instead I've been on the phone with AirBnB support for hours and I still don't have a resolution.

Hey AirBnB: I'M TRYING TO GIVE YOU MY MONEY and your broken verification system is preventing it.

Solved this today. UK number with a major carrier. After several attempts with both a UK number and my US Google Voice number, I tried formatting the number with a space and no leading zero: +44 xxxx xxxxxx. It worked and the verification text came through immediately.

This. I've had the same number for donkey's years, always on one of the big three UK networks (and a brief spell on Tesco Mobile but it was trasnferred ito them). Currently with O2 but it would not work until using this format and then suddenly it's OK. This is nothing more than a massive, glaring bug and a crappy UX that needs fixing. I would have expected better from a company that is capable of continuous delivery.

Same problem here. I've been using Airbnb for years without issue, but now I have a different phone number and it isn't accepted. I called the support and after 20 mins the only solution they found was to use an alternative phone number (even if I was on the phone with the support with this actual number!!! this is ridiculous). Tried different formats for the UK number and nothing gets accepted. So they just won't let me book my holidays. I have to use an alternative website which is a shame.

Same here! 🙂

I am having this problem now with a US phone number with Republic Wireless. I have had this phone number for 15 years. It is astonishingly bad customer service for Airbnb to simply tell customers to use a "different" phone number, as if we all have a dozen different burner phones. This was to be my first time using Airbnb and I now think very poorly of them as a company.

I'm on Republic as well and had the same problem.  Probably doesn't help much that the number started on a Tracfone and got ported over.  I've used that number since 2008 and NEVER had a problem before.   This is completely unacceptable.

I’m also having the same issue of not being able to get my mobile no verified by them. Anyone in Singapore having the same issue? I have a mobile no with singtel and they do not recognize my number asking me to try an alternative no which I don’t have and will

not get one for this problem.as per their advice I tried by computer and mobile phone and it just doesn’t work.

I'm having the same issue - I am on Verizon in the US and have had the same number for almost 17 years... i'm at a loss as to what to do next?

Yes, I'm from Singapore as well and facing the same issue these days. Haven't been able to receive the SMS. When I chose the call option it said it's not supported in the country.

Having looked thru this thread (and a few others) I thought maybe it was because I'm using giga (was previously with singtel). But I guess it's bug that's affecting a lot of people regardless of the carrier.

Same problem here: Verizon cell phone in California with the same number I have had for over 15 years.

I was never on a cheap network but I did transfer the number to Verizon back in 2005.

Has anyone been able to connect with a real person at Airbnb that admits that this is a problem?

If so can you please provide that contact info.

No idea why it worked but I used my work phone.

Then I went in and edited my profile and this time I was able to add my cell.

Deleted the work phone because it would be useless when travelling.

I have spent a lot of time with them and their support with no real solution. However I suggest you also try, you might have a different case.

For me they gave me two suggestions, first to add my home number, on which they would call me on and confirm my identity everytime I make a reservation. Second option to change my mobile provider.

The problem was then confirmed that their messages for some reason were blocked by the mobile provider themselves. This was confirmed by my mobile provider for my case. You could check my twitter conversation with them wanliammar1.

I believe they should add to their website the list of mobile providers that doesn't work, to save us some time.

Anyway there are other apps which you could use if this didn't work out.

Good luck!

no.  they refuse to cooperate.  I wonder if it is a part of the deal they made with the OSTR.  this is just one of the ways to prevent us from using this website.
