I was wondering what everyone does for cleaning when you have a guest that is staying for an extended period of time. Do you just charge the one time cleaning fee and clean upon checkout? Are you asking the guest to be responsible for cleaning till they check out?
It depends on the type of accommodation.
I only offer rooms with shared facilities. Long term stay guest take care of cleaning the room themself.
I clean public spaces frequently and remove garbage. I supply new bedlinen / towels on request (in a basket, after changing the bed guest can put the used stuff in it). I always ask if they need help changing the bed, but nobody wants it.
@Susan4715 I don’t charge a cleaning fee. So, if it’s less than 2 weeks, I keep fingers crossed they will tidy up after themselves. If’s more than 2 weeks, I give them the option of tidying up after themselves or I’ll do it when I supply clean towels, bed linen and bath mats.
I host long term guests in my own home. I have a cleaner come in weekly to do the communal areas, including kitchen and bathrooms and keep on top of them myself the rest of the time.
I do not charge a cleaning fee, but guests are given the option to either clean their bedrooms themselves and wash linens/towels (I supply them with extra bed linen, towels etc. as well as the cleaning equipment and products) or I can do it for a small fee.
I have found that some guests are happy to pay a small amount for me to do it, but others much prefer not to pay extra or have me in and out of their space, even though I will always liaise with them about a convenient time for me to go in and clean.
I don't charge enough for it to be financially worth it to clean their rooms and do the laundry for them, but I kind of prefer it so that I can keep things clean and also it gives you a chance to make sure things aren't getting out of control in there.
@Susan4715 this is a conversation that comes up often . personally i think we should be able to adjust for longer stays by adding a weekly fee. Bearing in mind that it is paid already in your first monthly pay out. the house is yours and needs cleaning at least weekly . The guest pays for a clean house and fresh weekly turnover service should be part of this . T do cleaning once a week at a prearranged time with the guest , preferably when they are working . This involves , linen change and towels, tea towels , and other linens used. It involves a bathroom clean and kitchen clean and removal of rubbish ,. It also can include lawn mowing or repair and maintenance. The fee can be sent to the guest each week as an extra fee after the first clean which should already have been paid for.If you are not prepared to apply cleaning onv
ce a week then there is a risk your guests will not be able to clean properly and you will lose control of the listing , cleanliness wise.
Yes, I can see this and thank you for your input. I may have to do this with the next guest coming in 8 days. He will be there for a month. It took me 5 hours to clean my 1 bedroom, 1 bath condo today from my last guest who stayed 5 weeks. She was my first guest and I have learned a lot after today! I will look into how to charge a weekly fee for the next guest staying a month. Thanks again.
