Dogs

Hi!

I had a guest with two dogs recently, and one of the dogs peed on a basket that stood on the floor. The guest wrote to me and said that she cleaned the basket, but honestly it smells bad now and I will have to through it away. I feel disappointed that the guests didn't offer to replace me for the "accident". I charge about 9 dollars extra for pets. I don't know if I will allow dogs any longer. It hasn't been a problem with other guests with dogs.

Does anyone know if it is possible to charge extra for "accidents"? I know that the extra charge is supposed to cover any eventual extra costs for pets, but the basket was worth more than nine dollars.

Hello @Anna16649

I'm sorry to hear that one of your guests' dogs had an accident in your home! It's nice that the guest communicated it to you, however I understand if the damage is more lasting that you'd like some compensation for the item.

Have you tried to go through AirCover? You can find out more information about what it covers and how to put in a reimbursement request 👉 here.

Let us know if this helps, and what you decide to do in the end please. 😊

@Anna16649

You have every right as owner to charge the guest the replacement costs for the item.   In your booking the charge for pets is way too low.   Depending on the length of the stay, and when we initially allowed pets, our daily charge was $25 per pet.   Then there should be an extra one time charge for cleaning, sanitizing, and deodorizing, $75 for 2 to 7 days and $150 for 8 plus days.

Accidents do happen, but in your property, the Guest is 100% responsible for their pets, this is not debatable or a negotiation.

Could you try to use Odorban and see if it helps? Or wash and leave the baskets outside for a while to let the smell go away.
