Hi all,
I'm a first time host based in Cape Town, South Africa.
Just wanted to know, do any of you require guests to fill out a jotform/ google form providing you with all names of guests and copy of ID/ passport?
What is the general response of guests to this?
Should I be doing it for all guests? First time users? Or not at all?
Appreciate the help, thanks.

Hi @Nosipho6
There are some countries where ID is required by law when checking in, and some countries where it seems to be somewhat customary to ask for ID. I've never stayed at an Airbnb in South Africa where the ID of every guest in the group was required, but I'm sure that doesn't mean that it's completely unheard of. There are hotels in SA that sometimes ask for ID (although, if you don't have any, they tend to just say "OK no problem", so I'm not sure what the point is 😀)
Your apartment seems to be in a secure building, does the building perhaps require ID? Have you thought about a way to collect the documents before arrival (I see you use lockbox check-in)?
If you do decide to ask for ID, I'd advise making this clear to your guests in advance (in your listing) as it may perhaps be something guests are not used to.
Hopefully you also get some responses from hosts who do require ID, who can explain to you the risks that you would be addressing by having all of the guest details on file.

Hey @Nosipho6
I'm also a Cape Town host and Copyist. I've been requiring guests to fill out a form with their details and sign our conduct rules for years, especially for certain buildings with specific requirements. I mention this in my 'Other Things to Note' section on the listing, and request IDs upon check-in. If I notice any not-so-green, or grey flags, I ask for ID copies upfront. Not all guests require this level of vetting, but for locals or weekend stays, I tend to be more cautious. Most guests understand and comply, while a few might complain – but I prioritize protecting my properties and being in good books with other residents. Through interaction & vetting, you'll get a sense of when to tighten things up. Hope that helps!
Wonderful support here @Thembelihle1. Thank you so much for stopping by and haring your experience as a host in the area. 🙌
Hopefully @Nosipho6 will stop by and read your comment. 😍
You're most welcome! @Nosipho6
I noticed that your Airbnb is in my area; I also have a few around Cape Town City Centre. So, shout if there's any way we can support each other. I'll be happy to help 🙂
