Guest has mail delivered to my residence with out my consent!

Guest booked 8 nights; Sept 5 until Sept 13

On Sept 5, I checked the mailbox grabbed my mail and made my way back to the front door of my house. As I approach the door entrance I climbed the steps to the patio I noticed to the right by my bicycle a box! I assumed it was a package from Tonique company for facial soap I was elated to receive.  As I reached for the box and glared at the name I noticed it was not my name and I had to think for a minute... Its the name of the guy who is to come later this evening!! I immediately became livid. The nerve this man had to have his mail shipped to my house and did not have the sense, respect to converse with me about it. I was appalled, I felt disrespected and all types of thoughts flooded my mind. He may be a  potential "squatter," he now can calm residency, what if the item in the box is hazardous and so fourth!!

Sept.6-7

The next few days this guy just gave off bad vibes, glared at me in silence as if I did something to him. He would not look a me directly nor my husband when speaking. So I felt awkward being in his presence. He seemed suspicious, his mannerisms were just all too much for me! To the point I had my husband to move forward weeks early and build the wall in the hallway closing off the two guest rooms that have outdoor entrances, in which one of the rooms this guy stays in. Just so I could feel conformable in my home as it is my son and I at home throughout the day.

So, dealing with this impression given the first encounter and then this is why the topic is an issue!

Today is Sept 9 this guest text me:

" I ordered something, I need for work and had it shipped to your address, it should be here this week." He text this as if its the first item, he's unaware I knew  already as the package was on my patio that he helped hi, self to when he arrived and before he knocked on the side house door!

My response was as follows; " Please, get a post office box for your personal mail for next items. As I never gave permission for ANY guest to use my address to have mail shipped to! Also, you booked 8 days, your checkout is on the 13th this Friday by 12 noon as stated on Airbnb.I know you requested a longer visit (through my husband, not me) but unfortunately  for you someone has booked from the 13th till 30th of Sept. So, if your mail is delivered after your visit ends it'll be at the local post office!"

Has anyone encountered a problem like this with a guest?

@Kevin1056  I never said you were a new host, I said you were new to this forum. Unless you have several IDs for this forum which would be on one hand suspicious on another hand would explain your troll like behavior.

@Inna22 maybe I do, and maybe I don't.  I don't trust these open forums. Airbnb Moderates them and censors comments and threads.    🙂

@Kevin1056  How would you know that, since you just started posting here? In my experience, the forum moderators only remove posts when they start getting into personal mud-slinging territory, if they are profane or racist, or posters include personal information, like guest's names, or their own email address or phone number, or links to other sites, as well as advertising for some other business.

I can assure you that posters discuss all manner of things here that are critical of Airbnb, and we're all still here, those posts still stand, and no one has had their lisings suspended because of something they wrote in the forum.

@Sarah977 If you want me to a level 10... I'll post 100 responses and I'll be a level 10 in 2 hrs... You move up 1 level every 10 responses. Personally I feel that levels should be based on a combination of Responses and Likes, and general activity not just based on 100 comments and then you are a level 10. I been on these forums when there were no levels. Every year or so they change the forums around.

Sheesh, since you will not respect my opinion unless im a level 10, I'll be a level 10 later tonight. Cheers ♥️

@Kevin1056  I questioned how you had knowledge of Airbnb censoring and removing posts and threads since you haven't been on the forums more than a couple of days. I'm well aware of how the "levels" work, and they mean nothing to me, just as "likes" and "thumbs up" mean nothing to me, those social media phenomena aren't germaine to my self-esteem, nor do I necessarily respect the opinions of a level 10 more than a level 2.

I never said I didn't respect your opinion- saying posts here are censored as the reason you are somehow being evasive about your profiles, wasn't presented as an opinion, but as fact.

As to your opinion on letting guests receive mail, you are perfectly welcome to offer your opinion, there is plenty of disagreement on this forum and it's interesting to read different views and what does and doesn't work for various hosts. It's telling others that they shouldn't be hosting if they have a different viewpoint than you that's offensive.

@Sarah977 @Inna22  At the risk of stooping to his level, based on his comments here, it appears @Kevin1056  is desperately looking for validation.

Yes, we get it. You have many properties. You are an experienced host with lots of knowledge to impart. I'm sure you make a lot of money too. That's fantastic. No one is debating that with you, okay?

There is a way to give constructive criticism to other hosts, and that, perhaps, is what you need to work on.

@Suzanne302 I want your validation!!! GIVE ME YOUR VALIDATION!!!!

@Sarah977 @Inna22 @Suzanne302 I'm pretty sure that @Kevin1056 is @Nina75 . Just call me Sherlock Holmes. That tone is pretty distinctive...

@Alexandra316  that’s brilliant! She does have a partner whose name is Kevin so makes total sense

@Alexandra316 in this thread she signed in and out with different IDs and at some point got confused and said hi Nina when being signed as Nina!! This is too much.

@Inna22 LOL! Wow...

Turns out he, left the item and needed to return to collect it. I was not going to let him back in the room. It was drug pipe of some sort. I had a police officer to check it out. I mentioned I felt something was up with this guy!

I have been put in a difficult situation with a guest using my home address for mail.  The guests ( perfectly charming lads from S. Korea) were visiting my city for a football match and unknown to me had tickets for the match delivered to them at my home. They were season tickets ( that shouldn't be used in this way!) and the lads should have returned them to the owner after the match but they didn't for reasons I am unaware of.

Some days later a pretty intimidating man showed up knocking on my door demanding these tickets - when I told him they were Airbnb guests he realised I couldn't help him and he left but this is not a situation I should be put in.

I have listed in my rules that my home cannot be used as a delivery address for guests since this incident.

Recently a guest informed me he had football tickets arriving ( he clearly ignored or didn't read my 2 house rules!)  and I told him that they could not be sent to me - he also wanted me to sign for them ,  I felt he was going to be a difficult guest due to his tone and he starting saying he would get me blacklisted blah blah blah and that I 'had' to host him  so I insisted he had to cancel his reservation which he did. He got a refund  as it was 4 weeks from the booking date.

It is obviously down to individual preference but I would advise against allowing deliveries to  short term lets such as mine. Longer term lets may be more suitable of course with permission clearly granted by the host.
