Blocked Calendar

A guest requested cancellation of a confirmed booking (June 15 to July 17, 2018) because of possible partial unavailability of the condo swimming pool due to planned upgrades.  We facilitated the cancellation request following airbnb procedures and incurred their penalty of a blocked calendar for the above period.  We believe this to be unfair punishment given that the circumstances are beyond our control.

We respectfully request that the calendar block be removed to allow this property to be accessed during the period June 15 to July 17, 2018.

@Jerry116 This just a forum of hosts and guests. You need to call AirBnB directly.

@Jerry116   If a host cancels even at a guest's request or via an email they recieve from Airbnb asking thme if they want to cancel the host is penalized and there are 7 penalties not just the one.

Click here for all Airbnb Contact information, call them and see if they will unblock the dates given that you had no idea that if you cancelled at the request of a guest you would be penalized - it helps if the guest mentioned it on your message board with them, you can prove it was their request.  If you claim "extenuating circumstances" you will need to provide documentation.

@Jerry116   p.s. guests often try to get the host to cancel so they do not lose their Airbnb fee. Never cancel, never click Yes if Airbnb send you what looks like it may be confirmation of cancellation, it is not (many a host has been blind sided by this one)  you will be penalized.   Always  have the guest cancel -  you will receive an email when they have cancelled saying "the guest cancelled", you have nothing to click to accept or confirm.

@Jerry116   In this case, I believe it was in your court as a host to cancel, due to fact that the pool amenity may not be available and the guests may have specifically wanted a place with a pool- that is what they booked. But you should have called airbnb first to explain the situation, hopefully they would consider it an "extenuating circumstance", as you have no cobtrol over the pool upgrades, and would cancel it for you without penalizing you. You can still phone them about it, perhaps they will unblock your calendar.
