Canceling a reservation made by mistake

Hi, 

 

I just made a reservation but chose by mistake the wrong dates. I want to cancel it ( 5 mins after I made the reservation) but because it is a 'strict' cancellation policy, I lose almost all the money. Is there a way to cancel an accidential reservation within minutes after the reservation without having to pay almost the entire amount?

@Ariel6 Send a message to your host right away and let them know that you made an error. You don't want to cancel your reservation, just amend it, which you can do penalty-free if both parties agree. Ask the host to  send you and alteration to the reservation with the correct dates, provided they are available. Or go in to your reservation, choose the Change or Cancel button, and then go to Change reservation to send the host a request to change the dates. I always feel it's friendlier to ask first, but the sooner you do it, the more amenable the host will be to accommodating you.

Hi @Ariel6,

 

As @Serafina0 suggested, you'll find Hosts are happy to tweak a booking here and there with a simple mistake like that. Jump on it quickly so it doesn't become difficult though!

Thanks. The host responded today and suggested I use the "cancel reservation" but if I do so, I lose all the funds.

I used Twitter help of Airbnb and they told me to go to the "AirBNB Resolutions" but there are only 4 drop down options, none of which match my case.

I also called the hotline call center, they promised that the fees will be used 100% for a different reservation and that someone will call me today to organize that but no one called 😞

 

This is getting way too complicated for a simple error in dates and trying to cancel after 5 minutes...

 

Any suggestions?

Did you try and change the dates of the reservation as sugggested - using the cancel/change facility?

Canceling would have triggered the strict policy and no refund as it was less than 7 days away. Eventually the resolution center called the host and convinced him to forego some of the funds and made good on the rest of the funds for me through a voucher so we are all good.
