Cancellation due to overall cleanliness of place

I booked a an apartment I. Queensland Australia for a business trip for two of my staff. When they arrived they found dirty/bloody pads in the bin in the bathroom, no top sheets and quilts looked like they had not been washed and towels had stains in them. We have used Airbnb before and never had this problem. 

When I asked the host to investigate he said that it wa not working for him and that he was happy to give us a refund. He said we had used three rooms instead of two  (I thought we were renting a whole place) and that he wants to keep the booking fees and rent for two nights as we have gone over the check out time. Now I am stuck with two of my staff away from home and have to look for another place and pay double. I am very disappointed and will need to reconsider using Airbnb for business again.

@Gricel1   Have you contacted Airbnb? Doesn't sound like there's any point talking to the host anymore. Contact Airbnb. They may refund your money. It will be very helpful if your employees took photos of the filthy mess. 

You say you thought you were renting the whole place. Is it listed as a whole house rental? 

If this sort of thing should happen in the future, the way to handle it is to immediately contact Airbnb, telling them the place is unliveable, they will cancel the reservation and usually try to find you alternative accomodation. Best not to stay, as that lessens the chances of getting a full refund.
