Date blocked, reservation pending.

Hi Folks,

I got a request yesterday night for booking my place for today. I approved it and selected the option "Do not block the dates, leave them open."

The guest didn't resposnd since then.

Currently my calendar is blocked.

Status on App is "Pending ID Verification - The Guest has 12 hours to submit ID to confirm the reservation"

Status on the Webiste is "Not Possible"

My calendar is blocked and I'm unable to unblock it. I guest who had stayed with me earlier wants to book right now but is unable to as the it's showing unavailable for today.

Could someone please suggest a turn around or explain if I'm missing something?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Jeet

@Jeet0    Yes Jeet, just take a private booking mate!  This site has become too big for it's ability to function!

I had a similar situation not long ago where a guest who had previously stayed with us through Airbnb wanted to book again through Airbnb. There were so many issues and obstacles thrust on both of us by Airbnb that in the end we agreed to do business without involving Airbnb! I still got a two week booking, the guest had a lovely two weeks here, and the only ones who missed out were Airbnb.

It's about time that someone in the Airbnb hierachy realised, we are the ones with the product...not them!

We are the risk takers, not them!

We are the ones to say yay or nay.....not them.

There needs to be a serious turnaound in the philosophy behind the way Airbnb formulate and respond to their rules.

You can only polish a turd for so long before you realise....it is still just a turd!!!

Cheers......Rob

Agree @Robin4. The guest insisted that he wanted to book via Airbnb 😞

Loss for both.

Anyway, how have you been?

Yes, I agree that this website is really frustrating and the people who run AirBnB are sooooo unavailable. I use another site which is such a dream and if I have any problems, I just pick up the phone and call them and get to speak with very friendly people in my own country who speak my own language....... a nice way to do business 🙂 Oh and I don't get a constant barrage of emails about managing my bookings, (as though I'm an imbecile). I've been running my house for four years now and everyone said "oh you've got to get on Air BNB" Pffffffffffffff, and now they want us to accomodate business people but strictly by what they dictate. We do not need Carbon Monoxcide Monitors where I live and until I "tick the box", there's no way I can host under this platform. Bloody ridiculous in my view, time they made themselves available to chat and yes realise we are not imbeciles. The End.

@Jeet0  It appears you pre-approved the traveler for your listing prior to the completion of the verification identification process and the traveler is given 24 hours to complete the ID process and complete the booking.  Now you have another possibility so you would want to be open for the new more certain traveler.  I think you should not have pre-approved the traveler so your calendar would be open.  I only pre-approve qualified travelers with a message that when they complete the verification process I would be happy to entertain their request if the space remains available.

Sometimes it is difficult to understand the traveler's point of view unless you have been a traveler.  I find I can be better at communication to travelers as I have had more experience as a traveler.

Hi @Linda108. I had got an option after sending the approval asking whether I wanted to block the dates or not. I selected no. Yet the dates got blocked and there was no way for me to unblock the dates. This hasn't happened before. I don't understand why my dates could get blocked inspite of me selecting the no option.

@Jeet0

I think it is an unfortunte combination of a guest going through the verification process and the fact that you pre-approved.  A kind of software clash.

Hello

in july a guest booked my house for next july 2017.

Congratulations!

Unfortunatelly i did not put the price of july and august. Then the price calculated by airbnb was much lower than the one of july and it is probably the reason why this guest booked the full month of july. As à result, i informed the guest that the price was wrong but i had no other choice than cancelling the Reservation. One year before it is not a big deal for the guest.

but

As à consequence my calender is blocked for the full month of july 2017. Do somebody Know what i should do to unblock it. Phone somewhere ?

@Marc-and-Géraldine0

Blocking the calendar is one of the penalties for host cancellation. The damage is done, there is no way to unblock the calendar now. You must keep your prices up to date at all times and use the settings for how far in the future you are prepared to take bookings. Perhaps disable instant book until you are more familiar with how the site works.

Good properties in popular holiday areas often book up a year or more in advance.  I have reservations for 2018 !  for my French seaside property through a different site.

I have guest who would love to arrive in early Jan for dates that sre marked in a dark grey on my calender.

His booking appears as "booked" in my Reservations list. Does this mean that he is still awaiting verification?

Its been way over a week since he booked but I am only noticing now that another guest has specifically asked to book those dates if I get a cancelllation...

Do I call the guest who is awaiting verification to ascertain what the issue is?

Doe the grey indicate "awaiting verification" ?

Eagerly awaiting help! Anyone?

I have the same problem. Yesterday a local guest wanted to book 3 weeks in my chalet for a family visit by relatives, but somehow when an ID was called for, she did not complete the procedure correctly. Now I have three weeks in July blocked on my calendar. I only got a message by text on my phone, and no message on the airbnb internet messages or requests pages.  Fortunately she gave her name and said she was local, so today I traced her down to her father's restaurant address and telephone number.

I suggested she should go onto airbnb TRIPS find 'pending reservations'; click CANCEL REQUEST then click OK.  I do not know if this will clear the computer clitch?  Any other suggestions?

It's annoying, because it was a lucrative booking and she has told me by phone she has booked at different accommodation now, and I am left with a blanked calendar for July!
