Can anyone please help? I'm new to Air B&B as a Host. First day! Here's what happened:
- I received a request booking from someone before I'd had a chance to block dates.
- I could only host them for 7 out of 9 days they needed.
- I emailed them to see if they could shorten their stay but have heard nothing.
- I then declined their booking in order to free up the available 7 days.
Now, I can't seem to make the available 7 days appear as available!! It seems to have automatically defaulted to blocking all 10 days.
Thanks anyone/someone!
Rebecca 🙂
Hi, unfortunately when a host cancels a booking, Airbnb imposes a cancellation penalty by blocking those dates from being rebooked. It's on us as hosts to keep our calendar up to date and if you're not ready yet, I'd suggest snoozing your listing so you can familiarize yourself with the different calendar/pricing settings.
Here's an article on the host cancellation penalities to keep in mind:
Edit: Now that I reread your post, I can't tell if you cancelled a confirmed booking or you declined a request to book? Because those dates are now blocked, I assumed you cancelled a confirmed booking.
Julie and Mike said it well.
I would only add that you should check/manage your calendar regularly. Guests can only request (or book, if you use instant book) dates which are listed in your calendar as available. If you manage your calendar (as you make your own 'I have a life too" plans, this will not happen in the future.
@Rebecca214 To give yourself a little breathing room while you learn about this platform, you could turn off Instant Book. Go to Calendar and More and on the left side of the calendar is a list of areas to edit. Go to Booking and turn off Instant Book. You can turn it on later when you feel more comfortable. You have an nice place so you will get a lot of interest in the beginning.
