Hello,
I am in a situation where my guests are I are being accused of stealing televisions of the host. However, my guests and I did not of course steal anything as I saw it in the morning when I left. I would also admit if I stole something of that nature with no hesitation. I already have admitted that one of my guests had an accident on the couch and have already agreed to pay for it. But the hosts has no evidence of the television being stolen and I believe this is filled with ill intent. We’ve already gone through the Resolution Center, Airbnb sided with the host. Any ways to help dispute this claim?
Hello @Nathalie461
It is unusual for Airbnb to side with hosts rather than guests, particularly where there is no evidence.
Are you saying that the host said your party stole TVs and without any evidence such as video evidence and with you disputing the claim Airbnb - Airbnb found in the hosts favour?
With the couch did you notify the host when this happened, or did they find the damage and have to then ask you for compensation?
I don't know if Airbnb has a way of appealing these decisions but you can ask them.
By the way I can't imagine anyone who had stolen an expensive item like this admitting to it 🙂
Thank you for your reply! There was no evidence of stolen televisions, no video footage either. It was just the statement as said by the hosts that we stole their televisions. Their reason for siding with the host was because they filed a dispute first. But I find it unjust as it would be hard for myself to file a dispute first if I had any knowledge the hosts would try to accuse me of something such as this matter.
For the couch, I was asleep during the incident and did not find out till upon the next morning when my friend told me. But the host provided images and I agreed to pay for the services to clean it.
But the accusation of television has zero proof or evidence.
@Nathalie461 You can contact Airbnb and ask for your claim to be escallated. Contacting them on Twitter also seems to work for a lot of people.
Is that the Coachella 2017 review that appears on your profile? That host seems a little... unhinged.
Thank you for your advice. I will try to go through Twitter in hopes of repealing this decision.
And the host making the accusation is not the one on my page. The hosts have not actually made a review on my page yet, surprisingly.
Hi, how did your issue get resolved? I'm in a similar situation and the host accused me of taking his TV screen plus the neighbour's laptop (physically impossible for one person to do while carrying luggage and travelling on a bike).
It's in a foreign country and am not sure how to handle this, especially since he is threatening to involve the police
What about if you're a guest, and a host secures a high value lost item on their property of yours, but then communicates to you it's been stolen, basically making your left item stolen now. What do you do after connecting with the host and they tell you it's not their problem? Go through Airbnb or pursue the host further?
