Questions for Hosts in apartments!

I've been interested in becoming an Airbnb host lately but instead of actual houses I been leaning towards apartments. Seems like a lower risk and better price I suppose. My big question is this... can you even host an apartment? I know alot of apartments have rules against sub letting or short term rentals and most of them actually don't allow it. Yet how is it that almost all Airbnbs I see are apartments? Do I have to ask for permisson or can I just operate without asking as long as I don't cause major problems to other rentees. I plan to lease an apartment for a year and see how well I can do. Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

@Joamin0 you must get a permission to sub-let, imagine if it was your apartment and someone was sub letting it without informing you.I am sure you would be upset, plus it is illegal. Also you need to inform yourself on the laws in your country about short-term rentals. Everything has to be legal if you don't want problems, it is not worth it. That said, inevitably you will have some bad guest who will cause some problems and you need to be prepared. Hosting is a lot of work but it can be amazing, you meet a lit of new people and of course the added income is a plus. Good luck!
