Receipts not being honored for security deposit

I thought everyone should know my receipt for damaged walls & sprinklers from the unauthorized music video crew (where they parked a 4300 lbs car on my lawn), are now being considered invalid.

I cannot wait for Marriot to launch their home rental platform.  Finally a company who understands real estate & asset management.

I am so tired of Airbnb letting vandals & criminals hide behind their "host guarantee" where actually NOTHING is guaranteed.

I was just told that we are responsible for damages because WE rented the house out.

Actually no, that's not how a real estate contract works. When you rent someone's home, YOU are responsible as a tenant.  It's not normal wear & tear to walk through someone's houses & scratch up all the walls. I submitted a receipt for the paint we just had re-done in January 2019; it was about $3400. It's not FREE to have someone come back out & repaint everything. The last time someone even scratched a wall with a suitcase I charged him & he paid without any hassle.

Why do we have to fight bad people?

It even says on my listing if you misrepresent the purpose of your rental you will lose your entire deposit.

I do this because this is one of our largest investments, & we don't have a large loan on it, & we bought the house turn-key. The sprinklers came with the house.  The house was fully remodeled.  The seller estimated he spent about $250K on everything.  New stucco, brand new high-end kitchen, new bathrooms that were featured in several designer magazines & features in LA, all new driveway pavers & walkways.  New gate & fence.  Brand new remodeled house & guest house.

As hosts we're being mistreated & this has got to stop.  Airbnb is making a huge mistake because once Marriott's home site is launched they're going to have to compete with REAL real estate executives.  Real customer service where you actually know what to expect.

Hello @Christina163

I am sorry that you had guests that misrepresented themselves as private guests but actually turned out to be an authorised music video crew.

Did you cancel their booking when you found out they mispreprented themselves?

Can you tell us why Airbnb turned down your claim for the damage (presume you had photo evidence and quotes for repairs and notified Airbnb before the next guests arrival).

And are you saying that Marriot are going to provide a comprehensive guest damage insurance as part of their offer...an presuming so from your post?

Every platform allows you to charge the guest the guest for the damages if you wish.
