For such an expensive trip, I suggest you consider using a listing that has a positive record.  If this listing is new with little information about the host and no reviews, it might be a scam.  Why take such a chance.

We were desperate to find anywhere to stay we left it too late couldn’t find anywhere for a price we could afford

If you have concerns about a listing (assuming it is listed on the official Airnb website), you can contact Airbnb :

Contact Airbnb - Community Guide [Updated]

Please note a new listing somehow needs it's first review....

You can also share the URL to the listing here, to get second opinions from the community.

Best regards,

Emiel

It's a listing on the official airbnb site - so, maybe just someone giving it a go as a new host. Since they are offering breakfast at 6 GBP a pop, seems they are interested in doing business. It's not an expensive offering either.

As it's a new listing, there isn't any reviews, not much in the way of host verification too, so as you say, can give doubts and caution - you might be the guinea pig here, but someone has to be the first guest to a new listing . Most scams usually follow the pattern of a request along the way to wire money directly to the scammer.

You should have the address of the property after booking. You can use google maps to confirm if all is kosher - one the photos on the listing actually shows the view into the street from the lounge.

Unless there is some breakdown in communications or turn for the worst prior to arrival, it looks legit. Proceed with small caution.

Hello, sorry to hear that. You will get back your money I suppose becuase Airbnb usually pay over money to the host once a guest checked in. But scamming is very serious and these culprits are very smart. As far as I know even your account could have been hacked so they will probably checked in for you. I would suggest changing password ASAP.  Inform Airbnb about your host's response rate and the fact that your host is unwilling to comminicate critical information such as the address of the property and asscees code or keys etc. Guests usually win over host and are more important than hosts. Your issue will be address  quikly, let us pray.

It is a room in someone's home and not necessarily a scam, just a brand new host trying to enter a very competitive market.  If you have paid through the site, you are protected by airbnb and will get your money back in case there is something fishy.  airbnb does not release the payment to the host until 24 hours after check-in.

If there is a mobile number, call or text or search What's app and also try to communicate with the host through the site.

Hi @Ciaran15

I've spent quite a lot of time researching scam accounts and dodgy profiles on the site over the past several years, and I'm pretty familiar with the warning signs, but there's not a whole lot with Luther's profile that would give me any cause for concern. Also, the vast majority of scams are related to entire home listings because of the higher yield, and as this is a private room listing, it's very unlikely that it would be worth a scammer's while to bother for such low returns.

It's understandable that you'd be a little nervous due to Luther only having a phone number listed as verification, but - unlike competitor sites - Airbnb has of late, more or less elimininated the requirements for hosts to provide any proof whatsoever that they are who the say they are, or that their listings are located where the host claims they're located. (IPO looming - it's all about ramping up the numbers now, by whatever means necessary)

However,  I'm fairly confident you'll be fine with Luther. He does have a flexible cancellation policy too, which you'd rarely - if ever - see on a scam listing. And bear in mind that you're a new user also, with only phone and email verification, and no reviews yet either, so he's probably every bit as nervous and apprehensive of you, as you are of him! 🙂

Why not just give him a call tonight to make sure everything is cool with the reservation? Probably put both your mind and your host's minds at rest - then you can get on with looking forward to your  weekend, without any worries hanging over you

Best of luck, and hope you and your girlfriend have a fabulous time at the festival!

Hi everyone thank you all so much for your help but it didn’t go our way at all we’re in a hotel double the money due to it. The pictures were nothing in real life he promised to collect us from the airport but didn’t because he was drinking till 4 AM. We couldn’t find the house and he was like I don’t see you then when we arrived he said he wouldn’t of collected us.

there was wine bottles dirty clothes glasses  everywhere, the room was just a mattress there was stains a random tablet on the ledge with mould on round it. He didn’t really introduce himself we sat in the room whispering feeling so uncomfortable. My girlfriend really didn’t want to be there and I thought maybe give it a chance but it just started giving signal of not something we wanted we were thinking of ways getting out and leaving he wasn’t sitting down stairs watching Telly I went toilet and my girlfriend said he left and we packed everything ran out the door we seen him in his car and we felt like we were criminal so I felt afraid he was going to say something I was rushing to get out of the area rang our parents for 400 to afford a hotel with the festival it’s crazy money. We’re in a lovely room I cancelled the room I lost the it on 88 euro due to it unfairly imo. Overall negative I’ve been up since 3 am for the flights and only feels like a holiday now , don’t think I’ll go for a bnb unless it has reviews because this has cost and ruined the start of our  weekend thank you so much for your information and help thank you guys
