Security deposit

Hi there

My guest claims that he paid R15 640, of which I have recieved R13 046. There was an additional R456 sevice fee, bringing the total to R13 500. I am assuming that the difference is the security deposit which I have on my listing, which is on hold on his credit card. Is this correct and can I assure the guest that he will get that back on departure?

Thanks,

Stephanie

@Stephanie35 the Security Deposit is not charged to the guest when making a reservation. Also, I've been told by Airbnb that they do not place an authorization or "hold" on the guest's credit card.  Airbnb keeps the credit card information on file for a short period of time in case the host needs to make a claim for damage / broken items and the like.

As to your question about what your guest has been charged, he should see a breakdown on his itinerary for all the charges.  Also, when he made the reservation request he should have seen these same figures.  Here's a help guide on this subject:

If applicable, VAT taxes, hotel taxes, cleaning fee and the like are itemized for the guest.  You can also see the breakdown of the costs by "pretending" to make a reservation for similar dates with the same pricing.  You will see all the charges itemized.

Hope this helps you sort things out!
