block a guest

Today i received a booking request for some dates next week. After some hours Airbnb sent me an email "we cancelled the request for safety reasons". The guests communication and the profile was already alerting me, so i was happy Airbnb got this one of my back. Then he sent a new request ! I declined, referring to the Airbnb cancellation.

And then he again submitted a new request. Why does Airbnb not block those people after they initiated such a cancellation ? I would really be pleased to see a "block guest" feature on the platform !

Block guest button existed until 2 years ago and then ABB removed it.  All of us would really be pleased to see a "block guest" feature on the platform !

What? Airbnb does not block those people after they initiated such a cancellation ?  😮

@Branka-and-Silvia0

Indeed, Airbnb cancelled a booking request by themself and then the guest can go on if nothing happened.

So after receiving the booking request again I:

- reported the profile to Airbnb

- answerred the guest on his message "i booked again" ==>  "i report you to Airbnb"

- answerred on Airbnb's "cancellation" email: can you please block this person ?

- asked AirbnbHelp on Twitter for intervention

What a total waste of time to get a lunatic off your back ...

And now the dates are still blocked, because the request is still pending.

Bet regards,

Emiel

Sadly @Emiel1  and @Branka-and-Silvia0 ,the third wheel process of blocking a guest by Airbnb, specifically for safety reasons, then not removing them from the platform, is quite unacceptable. Hosts with instant book specifically need to be able to have that extra option to stop badgering or totally mismatched guests constantly rebooking. This is especially important if the dates and timeline are close. Requests are also a problem, but that’s not a confirmation. Once a red flag has been raised, that should be the end of transactions.....

For pure sanity, bring back the block button. This should be available to a host for particular circumstances, and definitely should be part of the Airbnb control centre procedure.

Why are the simplest actions, the hardest to achieve?

Find it bizarre Abnb would cancel a guest for “safety reasons” and yet allow him to continue booking. That being said great they did cancel the booking, I would not have imagined that they scrutinized or monitored undesirable guests like that., but I am happy they do.

@Claire475Not bizzarre. Host safety is not a priority for them. Hasn't been for years. Even if we did block them they can just make a new profile very easily and send it again.

I had a confirmed reservation from a guest, but when I went to check my routine initial message of reply, I couldn't find it.  I then noticed a 5-second message at the top of the screen that said the guest had been removed from Airbnb for safety reasons -- yet, their reservation was still on my calendar.  Only by accident did I know there was an issue.  I had to call the Help desk to get it straightened out.  There IS a problem here that Airbnb is not addressing.

I don't understand why your calendar is still blocked if you declined the request?

I have received a message from ABB when I had a booking enquiry that I would not be penalized if I did not respond. I hadn't even seen the message yet! It's clear that ABB is vetting some of these, as the enquiry was asking me to accept conditions that were quite outside my parameters; ie. extra guests camping in the yard.

I had AirBnB cancel a guest for the same reason. However, the account was removed.

I have had about 5 cancelations like that and I can tell you it is artificial intelligence screening the guest for something small. Not like a real human making a decision that your safety is in jeopardy. They call it the "Trust and Safety" team that is why you remember it being for your safety. I am pretty sure it is usually based on a mismatch on their address on their credit card (billing address does not match what they put in). These cancellations have mostly been bad for me but I have never experienced this with the person requesting again! In my experience they are truly disappeared from the system so I cannot message them or see the old booking. Once the spouse re-booked under his profile and the property and dates clued me in so I asked what had happened with the wife being canceled. He said they had no idea, they simply got an email that the reservation was canceled. Also when I have asked Airbnb for an explanation of what the problem was (if they canceled a really good booking that I wanted) they basically have no idea. Trust and Safety is automated when it comes to that feature/process.

Quess what?  I just lost my  Superhost. I had two quests that drank to much and ruined a mastress, the other one soaked the mastress and urinated in a bottle by the bed. knocked two pictures off the wall. The one is unreplaceable and air bnb still let him rent another room. Out of five reveiws  three were bad.  One of my quests was asked to read the quidlines I had left on the desk in his room,  quess what not one of the quidlines were followed.and the review he gave me was all 1 s. He called my place a dump and tryed to destroy my job as host.  I am so sorry that AirBnB does not makes visits  to home where there are reports that should be investagated.  AirBnb wants you to be honest and report the real thing and this is what happens.

@Emiel1 @Marcia55 @Mary419 @Jessica384 @Zappa0 I blocked a guest last week. The feature is not gone, just obscured, as I have posted here before:

I had a guest get canceled by Airbnb because there weren't funds to pay for the booking for a one-nighter. The next week I got a request from the same guest asking to book again for another one nighter, and I said no sorry looking for a two-night reservation. The same guest said we'll why are you doing that before you were going to let us have a one-nighter! I did not want this guest who could not come up with a payment for one night so now I'm supposed to let him come for two nights? Very inconsiderate. And I think Airbnb should have flagged that.
