You can open an account at the age of 18, @Angela1386, but whether many hosts would be happy opening up their homes to you would boil down to their trust in you, and your communications would be key to that. City/country rules apply, naturally.

@Angela1386

The Terms of Service state:

"In order to access and use the Airbnb Platform or register an Airbnb Account you must be an individual at least 18 years old"

I recently hosted an 18 year old guest  In my country hotels can set there own rules regarding minimum age. And they do, i have seen minimum ages of 25 in their terms. Some hosts on Airbnb also mention a min. age in their listings, but it is officially not respecting Airbnb's non-discrimination policy, where "age' is mentioned under section "Age and Familial Status", read for yourself:

https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/1405/airbnb-s-nondiscrimination-policy--our-commitment-to-inclus...

Hope this helps,

Emiel

@Angela1386 ,

Yes, you are able to book. However, some hosts are reluctant to accept bookings from guests with no prior reviews.

May I suggest that you will likely be more successful in making a reservation once you have added a profile photo and have written a little about yourself in your profile. When you make an enquiry or request to book, include a message to the prospective host. In this message, include the purpose of your trip, why you picked that specific listing, the names of guests travelling with you, and anthing else pertinent to your trip.

Regards.

I’m relatively new to Air b&b hosting, recently I had a 17yr old book with a guest to stay in my double room. I had no idea that an under 18 can have an air b&b account and, if they are bringing a guest we hosts do not know their age or information unless we ask.... ?

This a real issue and potential for all sorts of legal implications from under age drinking to under age sex. It’s been a real uncomfortable experience as hosts are penalised so highly for cancelling? I’ve now listed my place as suitable for responsible 18yrs+. Together with confirmation that they are over 18yrs of age before being able to book.

However, as another has stated what happens when a parent books their child? This has also happened with me recently, but the guests are 18 and this was a responsible parent and daughters staying. (Thankfully).

After my experience and reading all, other hosts experiences and air b&b policies.

 I guess we hosts must learn from experience and ask the right questions, prior to accepting a booking. To which I’d prefer to be much more laid back with, but I’m also not putting myself at risk of under age laws.

Thank you for reading .... 💭
