refundable deposit mistake

We got our bill to pay for a stay through airbnb. We paid through paypal. The problem is, we didn't notice the "due now" amount, which did not include the $500 security deposit. We paid the whole amount, including paying for the deposit. Now that our stay is over and we realized we should not have paid that, how do we get that money back?

Most likely you contact the people that you sent the money to.  Don't you think that is a reasonable thing to do?

That's strange, @Cameron9,  because the security deposit is not charged, only held unless needed due to damages.  You might want to go back and re-check your PayPal statement.  Often times what is a hold through PayPal might look like It has been charged, but it hasn't.  The funds might be frozen, until the hold time is over, but not actually taken  out of your account.
