A guest not sticking to a "no pets" house rule.

Hello,

I'm fairly new to Airbnb and so far have had a really nice, respectul guests. However, this weekend I have a guest at my guest house that brought a dog, even though I have "no pet" policy under house rules. Sometimes I do make exceptions if people ask me if they can bring their pet. However, I do want to be able to approve a pet before entering my property and usually I charge a higher cleanning fee. This guest didnt mention anything about bringing a dog, and it kind surprised me when he was running around in the yard and barking at me this morning! I found it very rude and disrespectful, especially let the dog run all over the yard and barking..The guests didnt come out, apologize or anything! Also, I have small kids and certainly do not want people bringing their pets without approval. What should I do in the situation like that?

Also, do you usually come out and introduce yourself to guests or just give them space and privacy?

@Teresa26, not sure i understand.  You rent out a place in the same place that you live in and you did not meet them at check-in and see the dog?

A few months ago i had the same thing.  A Fench couple with a seeing eye dog arrived completely un-annouced in a newly renovated apartment.  It was really hard, nice elderly couple, i guess they just did not realise, i let them go and prayed the dog would behave....

Ideally you should go over and give them a warm welcome and just mention you did not realise a dog was coming.  Tell them you usually charge an extra fee for a dog and would it be ok if they could pay it?

I have had this with extra guests arriving un-announced, 99% of people are happy to pay.

Yes, I have a guest house that is located on the same property as "main house" that we live in but it has separate gate, entrance etc..I have a lock box that guest access the key from and they can check-in and check out whenever they want to...with a few last guests I knocked at the door to say hi and introduce myself but not sure if people might think it awkward..?? Anyways, yeah I do would like to have a word with my guest about the dog and hopefully resolve the issue between us...

I think you should ask them if they have read the rules... just in case they have "missed" that part

@Teresa26, definitely introduce yourself, and indicate that an extra fee is charged for a dog. 

You can change the overall price, and the request is sent to the guest, who accepts or declines it.
