Fear factor. The “balut” challenge.

One of our favourite things to do with guests is a surprise visit to a local plaza where they can try the local delicacie Balut. It’s amazing how adventurous most are. What’s your local delicacy?

Our speciality are locally produced Frisian products like "Sûkerbôle", most guest do appreciate it:

You guys! White bread with lumps of sugar? An egg shell with... Okay, never mind. I cannot talk, since the Canadian dish everyone talks about is [shudder] poutine. 

There are delicacies in my woods, though. I show guests where to find the wild asparagus and wild garlic. I don't show anyone, even my husband, because he cannot be trusted not to crack under questioning, where to find the morels.
