Hay anybody else experienced problems with receiving Text/SMS messages

I am presently experiencing negative response rates as all of a sudden I no longer receive Text/SMS messages. I manage my booking by responding once I have been notified that I have an enquiry/request. Obviuosly this has not been happening because I am unaware I have a request.

Despite even speaking to a person at Airbnb this has still not been resolved?

Has anyone else had a similar problem?

Regards

Paul

I can now see this is a far more common problem than led to believe by Airbnb . Lucky the person who was offered compensation of any sort.

This is totally ridiculous and unacceptable and their representatives should be honest when we phone up to resolve issues.

I just want the service operating as it did.

Regards

Paul

Hi Paul, Scroll down here, go to twitter and airbnb facebook. You are not alone. Alot are having this problem and it's causing alot of inconvenience, lost revenue and affecting our listings which we work hard to maintain the high level of response. Hope it gets sorted for you soon.

I have just tried to contact airbnb via the phone number they supply - and guess what!  You're asked for the number which is linked to your account - and it won't recognise my number!! so it won't answer my question!

I have had this problem for a long time but it is getting worse - messages sometimes come through my phone and other times don't.  I basically have to log onto my account now to see if I have any inquiries since hardly any come through anymore.  I have called in the past and the Airbnb rep could see no problem since my settings are set correctly to receive text notifications.  I hope they are fixing this!

Thats EXACTLY what they do with me too!  😞  and they pretend they don't know that others are experiencing this problem 😞  I have no idea why they'd not bother to rectify this situation 😞

@Paul23    ........Sure have!....I lost a booking because it sat on my dashboard for 16 hours and I never knew it was there. Paul, cracks are appearing in the system.......and as I have said in other posts there are going to be some problem times ahead. I phoned Sydney and spoke to a very pleasant lady who said she had 're-activated' my sms messages, but I have had three messages since then on my listing page that I haven't been notified of. In fact, since last week my mobile phone has been utterly silent as far as Airbnb is concerned!

This is a big deal, fairly obviously cellular contact is costing Airbnb and enormous amount of money....every txt costs, and the 'backroom boys' have hit on this solution (which works fine in NY, Miami, Paris, London, in fact anywhere there is a Wifi hot spot) but in the less heavily saturated internet areas we depend on cellular....even a personal WiFi is still a cellular service.

Probably one of the worst aspects of this though Paul is Airbnb have not had the guts to come out and tell us that they are deleting a whole platform of communication! We have had to find out in bits and pieces on a forum site for gods sake, and those same 'backroom boys' haven't cottoned on to the fact that an sms costs them 25c....a lost booking costs them an average of $20.00 if it disappears to another booking site!

Paul, we are being screwed to that God of economies! Airbnb knows full well there will be a lot of flack and a considerable amount of fallout from this but, It's a numbers game.....the decision has been made to discontinue cellular notifications and that is all there is to it. You will get some soothing talk...(There you go Robin, I have reset your notifications) ....but I am afraid, it's all cobblers!

Strap yourself in Paul, we are in for a rough time and you know, the worst part about it is? After following Airbnb's advice to the letter you are going to be pinged for not responding to enquiries....as though it's all your fault, not theirs.....jeeezzzuuuuussss!!!!.... cheers.....Rob”

I am facing the same problem. I dont recieve sms messages from airbnb nad have to log onto the website or open the app to see any reservation requests.  This has to be resolved soon.

@Marina20 Hi there Marina, I don't think it is going to change. I fear the decision has been made to dump cellular communication and in future you are going to have to hover over that computer of yours. We have heard nothing from Airbnb but, in a lengthy conversation with an Airbnb help person this evening she said there was nothing that she could add but conceeded that I was on the right track....and she then went on to tell me that, as a Superhost, I would be one of the first to know of the changes that are taking place!!

So there you go...strap yourself in possum, there is change in the wind!!!!...cheers....Rob

Thank you so much for your response Robin.  Its a real shame however...now tripadvisor is using sms text messaging and airbnb who is the leader in this market has decided to drop it.  It was a very useful tool for hosts.

@Marina20 Yes, but with Trip Advisor you have no idea who you are actually listed with.....They have two sister companies, Holliday Lettings' and 'Flipkey' that they farm off letting business too, and the worst part about Trip Advisor is there is absolutely no way to contact them unless you go through a forum site! Their entire help and customer support is limited to a few generic questions and answers! They are incredibly secretive about any direct contact......I know, I tried to list with them! There is nowhere you can 'email' or 'contact us' where Trip Advisor is concerned....If you had an issue, hell could free over before you actually got a response.... and Stayz are notorious for slow payouts! Some hosts wait months to get their dollars for individual hostings.

So Marina...I can only hope that Airbnb can get on top of this and get things back to normal but......I am afraid you are going to have to live your life with WiFI hotspots in mind....sms is a thing of the past!!!!Cheers....Rob

I was also recently made a super host and they gave me a number I could call with any problems - I reported this problem and ALSO the fact that they are underchaging some of my guests and passing the discount on to me :(. . .they fobbed me off with BOTH queries. . .and even more worrying - after that first call the number they gave me - COMPLETELY DISAPPEARED!!  I can't even call them back to tell them they are a bit crap 😞

This is an IT problem which has come about as a result of IT tinkering in 2016. I have had 2 enquiries this year and no SMS - i reported to AIRBNB and they replied saying there was a "glich" on that day. I have "lost" the bookings as I didn't reply fast enough. There have been numerous changes this year which have not only screwed up the SMS but thay have also screwed up the "search listings" - again I have reported it and nothing appears to be changing. YES I clear cache every time I do a search.

Despite  reporting this twice we have had not SMS notification since December

I'm having similar problem since last year.

Reported it, they said they would look into it and then closed the request (without the problem being solved).

I'm VERY DISAPPOINTED!
