How can I DELETE my listing?

How can I DELETE my listing?

I had a long chat conversation with represtive about the deletion of listing but he can not clarify to me and I am genuienly confused and what some clarification.

As he said  "deactivation of listing = deletion of listing" but at the sametime (as per documanation)deactivation of account ≠ deletion of accountCan anybody please explain in detail why does Airbnb use deactivation word for deletion when it comes to listing and not in account?

The simple thing what I want to do is permananty delete my listing and not permanantly deactivate.

@Joshi0 in your listing status under drop down menu there is a link that says "permanently deactivate listing"

Hey Inna,

Thanks for the quick comment. My main question is regarding the the word deactivate. Deactivate has complete different meaning other then delete.  I just want to know why they are using the word deactivate instead of delete.

It's my understanding that you would deactivate it if you want to activate it at a later date. You would delete it if you never want to reactivate it again.

@Joshi0

The agent you spoke with is talking nonsense. Even in Airbnb's own language, deactivating and deleting accounts are two very different procedures.

However, as a rule, Airbnb will always try to persuade you to deactivate - so your details remain in their system - rather than delete. I won't go into detail on the whys and wherefores of this, but suffice to say, each and every host on the platform has a nominal value on their head, that counts towards the company's $38 billion valuation - particularly important with an IPO on the horizon (now likely to be 2020, rather than 2019)

This is the information you need..

@Joshi0  Hrm, not something I had thought about but I think you’re right. There isn’t an option to truly delete your listings, only deactivate them. I wonder how this complies with local laws, which often require companies to remove customer information altogether if the customer asks. Deactivating isn’t removing so... hrm, yes interesting.

@Joshi0 I may be wrong, but my initial impression of the difference between deactivating and deleting an account/listing is that it might be more about your Airbnb profile.

Some people may want to remove their listing, but keep their profile for use as a guest.

As a host, your profile could never truly be erased from the system because your reviews of guests will remain.... maybe that's why they don't use the word 'deletion' for 'account'.

@Joshi0

When you phone Airbnb to have your account deleted (or you can email Airbnb's Data Protection officer at dpo@airbnb.com), under GDPR rules, you have the right to be informed of whether or not your data has been transferred to a third party (outsourced ID verification etc), exactly how much information and personal data pertaining to your account will be retained, and on what grounds that data won't be deleted.
