Loosing Super host

I had a male ask to stay and accepted. I really shoudl not ahve because then he asked questions about paying me cash as he had no money left on his debit card and asking to stay longer. I then declined and called Air BnB told them I did not want him he sounded disengenous and worried he would not pay. I am a single lady alone and his messages were getting threatening.

Air bnb called and agreed for me to cancel.

Now I have lost my superhost.

I feel this unfair when my security was a risk and he was wanting to pay me cash.

It does make single people weary about loosing superhost or cancelling.

A: I would've told him to go put the cash on his debit card and pay through AirBnB 😂 (sorry, couldn't resist)

B: Did AirBnB cancel the res or did you? If you did ON THEIR SUGGESTION, call back and make them fix it!

C: I, as @Gill40, thought cancelling due to "uncomfortable" via the phone number was a "freebie" as long as AirBnB agreed.

@Huma0, maybe you can give advice? You are in UK and had to have gone through this in your time as a host.

Also, the big thing @Gill40? Call AirBnB and SAY "He wanted to pay outside the system. He broke AirBnB's rules. I didn't cancel, AirBnB should've!"

I will say one thing... how could the stay have been booked if he hadn't already paid for it via the system?

The way I understand you this is what happened:

Either he IB'd or did Res. Req. originally.

  1. If he IB'd, res is already paid.
  2. If he Res. Req'd, you responded with "accept" in the email, thus allowing him to complete the reservation. Once again, he'd need to have paid to complete it.

So, you say you "cancelled" his res. This means he paid within the system but - what - wanted a refund from you and wanted to pay in cash?

@Gill40 I've never been in this situation, so I'm not entirely sure. I'm also a bit confused. Like @Jann3 said, if he had booked via Aibnb, then how was paying in cash an option, or did he just want to pay you in cash for an extension of his stay?

Airbnb should absolutely reinstate your Superhost status as you went by their policies in refusing and then reporting this guest. You mention that you spoke to them re the cancellation, which they agreed to, but did you discuss the impact on your Superhost status at the time? If not, call them again, explain the situation and ask them to reinstate it.

I know hosts in other countries complain about Airbnb customer service, but I have always found them the UK call centre (I think it's actually in Ireland) to be very helpful and proactive. I spoke to them once about a unresponsive guest that I was starting to worry about, and said "I don't want to cancel because I don't want to lose my Superhost status," and they seemed to understand my predicament very well and sorted out the problem for me.

Speak to them again and let us know how you get on!

I am having a similar issue about a cancellation issue and it is effecting my super host status, in the past I always go through to the Irish Call Center who I had no problems with, I cant get through to them anymore and am having real issues trying to get my problem resolved.  Any help please with call center numbers, the one I have is 6971831.

Thank you

Thanks Jeff

Just to let you know that all numbers now seem to be directed to a central call centre.....where all the staff seem to be reading from a script and have very limited scope or knowledge when dealing with "real" people.

Hi Jill, your topic is in time of my worries right now. I just accepted a guest. After a few minute he kept calling me asking so many questions which is normal for a guest who has not been in my place. Later he mentioned he will be inviting more friends to book with me but ourside Airbnb and talk a lot more getting more income outside Airbnb. He scares me, I am not sure why. But I am confused why he mentioned a diff nationality from his profile.
