Cancellation within one hour window

A potential guest contacted me and showed up as confirmed but I had another guest arriving same day. I contacted the guest within one hour and apologized that I couldn't host him. Instead of him canceling he asked me to cancel so I did. 

I usually answer guests through email when I see Airbnb logo in my in box. The guest said he didn't see my message with my apology for cancelling. I have auto book and wondered if it's glitchy? Today my Calendar won't open!

I'm not sure but:
- auto book, by that you mean you have turned on "instant book" feature
- This is the case of being overbooked (by your mistake)
- I think that once YOU as a host cancel an active booking, because you can not accomodate the guest due to no availbilty, you can't reopen them afterwards. You get somehow penalized.

If you cancelled than that period would be blocked.

 

How did you get 2 bookings for the same dates?
