Hi everyone.
I booked a stay for 3 people about a month ago. I recently contacted our host asking if it was okay to have a fourth person stay with us. The host said it was fine, he understood our situation and would make an exception. He asked for another $20/night, which is absolutely fair and we are happy to pay.
However, in the same message he also asked for an extra $100 damage deposit in cash. By the sounds of it, he also wanted the extra $20/night in cash.
We only have a week until our trip, what is the appropriate action to take?

@Chelsey5 The host CANNOT ask for a security deposit in cash. Read more here: https://www.airbnb.com/help/article/140/how-does-airbnb-handle-security-deposits
I would kindly let him know cash transactions outside the Airbnb platform are not allowed. You can go to your Resolution Center to send him the extra $20/night since you both agreed on that.
proper way would be that the host sends you a special offer (reservation change) through Aibnb and than you except it.
Cash transactions are against Airbnb policy
Security deposits are not charged immediately and host will get it only if you make a damage and he request it through the resolution center
